Good luck. EA hasn't released the source code from any game, except from Command and Conquer 1. That was made back in 1995.

Was it EA that released the source code or WestWood Studios (before they got brought up by EA)?

It was EA, as Westwood was bought in 2002, 12th anniversary wasn't until 2007.

That they don't give it out? Or do you not understand what source code is?

there are a few things EA could do that are reasonably simple to allow us to do certain things.

If they did release teh source code I'm sure there would have to be an agreement you'd sign before using it saying you wouldn't use it for monetary gain, otherwise garage DEV teams could take the bf2 engine and use it to produce a game to make money for themselves - which isn't fair to EA.

even if DICE would want to the release the source code, in its core the BF2 Engine most likely contains code parts, that are not originaly form DICE and can not be released - sorry, but its VERY unlikely that something like that happens

I would totally donate for something like this.

PR is about the only thing keeping BF2 relevant, my friend bought BF2 just to play PR with me.

I would sign a petition if this ever gets done.

It would take a simple agreement, as noted, that the PR DEVs wouldn't give the code to anyone else or use it to make a profit.

I'm guessing you're referring to MAG? Ever read a review of it? The graphics are awful, so that the console can handle 256 players (but mind you we play PR, many of us on low settings, so less-than-stellar graphics shouldn't bother us too much...).
The HUD is also incredibly cluttered and even if you get past those things, the fact remains that there is little to no organisation so the rounds are chaotic and people still lonewolf, the problem being exacerbated by the fact that there are more than 200 people doing it. More players is not always better.

Granted, a community like this one could make amazing use of a game like MAG, but we really are minority.

IMO BFBC2 is a good fun arcade shooter and miles better than CoD.

/offtopic.

thats a bit like saying you dont donate to charity's because they havent worked for your money,so its not fair if you would give it to them

if EA would do it they would bring more joy to life instead of them getting 1000 dollars more, cuz people will buy thier game wheater we have a better mod or not.

its called a noble deed, but people mostly prefer money.

kinda like the dev team donates time and money to the mod to make our miserable life's better

I present to you, Söldner: Secret wars!
YouTube - Soldner - Secret Wars
YouTube - Soldner Secret Wars Trailer
A game released one year before BF2, had a commander that was important and squads, workable voip, fully destructible terrain and buildings, realistic damage and weapon handling, no map limits (you can drive off map how long you want to), full gesture system, vision modes Night and IR, lots of vehicles, a community constantly working on it since 2004 and released their own patches to the entire gameengine and it support up to 256 players.

Because screw you EA/DICE and your shitty arcade Battlefail 2 game.

The one thing we could try is getting in touch with the bf2 dev who wrote the BF2 netcode, raise a few thousand dollars through the community, and see if we cant pay EA for them to let us up the playercount block ingame to 128 players and possibly the max squad member and number of squads limits. Even that is quite a stretch...

I'd donate to that if it ever happened :) Does seem unlikely though.
