Problems since upgrade and update

Hi guys I was away for a while and in the mean time V0.9 came to life; at the same time I upgraded my machine from a core 2 duo to an I7 now i tweaked and twisted everything and installed BF2 the 1.41 the 1.5 the PR core the levels the patch the patch etc...

Now randomly in some servers I am playing and paf CTD (crash to Desktop) some other servers (UKWF I.e) upon loading CTD...

I tried the +fullscreen 0 method and got this:

The PC runs well BF2; BF BC2, COD 4, WaW, MW2 and OPFP DR (I even found how to disable mouse accel)
The system is running under Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit
the MOBO is an ASUS P6T with 3GB kingston HyperX 1800mhz memory and I7 920, 2 Nvidia GTS250 in SLI running 195.45

I have tried no SLI Overclock, no OC, Overvolt, No OV, I even put back my old GTX8600 nothing to it....

have not tried removing or reducing AA but i am on it now then i will try underclocing the RAM.

But if someone can point me in the right direction i will really appreciate your help.


EDIT:
Turned AA off and tried to join UKWF (not easy to get a slot) and joined then got PB kicked for:
"MD5 tool mismatch: mods\bf2\std_archive_mod.md5"

I googled and apparently is a corrupt file... BUT! joined Pelitkula and didnt get that...
So joined my server which has the latests MD5 and neither... but went to desktop (CTD) Arghh.... I want to play....

Damn, you had to wait like... like several hours! :'(

You could have used that spare time trying to narrow or reproduce the problem and search for possible solutions yourself. For example, lowering graphics, especially textures, is one common way to test which settings are involved with the issue.

The CTD when loading is often caused by textures on high. i always ctd when having textures on high, putting it on medium solves it for me.

Ganja; Clueless noob; thanks for your advice.

I didn't think of the textures; and i will give it a try; however I am thinking more of RAM problem as I got again the PB kick for another different file

I will test today and revert about it.

Do anyone with hardware knowledge knows if HyperX memory rated 1800 running at 1800 can be volt starved at 1.5v ? (they are rated 1.5v)

Well just an update....

I set the textures to medium and the CTD seems to have dissapeared (i idled for about 3 hours in an empty server needs more testing) AA was 8X

I applied more volts to my RAM since it is working at 1800mhz and kinston rates them at 1.65 (I put 1.62 as i gain 3 degrees by reducing it)

However I still get kicked from UKWF for PB MD5

I realized after install I moved the game to another harddrive and probably it is expecting the files in the old location... dunno... So I am reinstalling to see if the PB MD5 kick goes away... If so I will revert here in the hope it helps some one.

However now i get the memory.dll error when changing maps....
I've seen that the solution posted here is deprecated after 1.5 ... what should i do ?

I am very frustrated it is been almost a week i have had to resort to karkand....

what are the reccomended settings for playing PR ? I mean it used to run fine in my old machine but that was before the update to 0.9xxx

When looking for answers please follow these simple steps.

#1 : Read the red stickys First.
New PR problems are rare so most answers can be found here.
You could (from Sticky: Help Guide for Lag / Stuttering caused by memory):
Increase Virtual memory (Page File)
The paging file is widely known as the windows virtual memory file. This file is used by the system when the windows run short of the actual RAM. Windows keeps on increasing and decreasing the size of the page file, which in itself is not very efficient. This affects the accessibility of fragmentation of your files. You should rather define your own paging size. Select the minimum and maximum size of the virtual memory to be the same. <<(This one really works well).
A preferable size is about 1.5 times the RAM you have.
To enhance performance, it is good practice to put the paging file on a different partition and/or on a different physical hard disk drive. That way, Windows can handle multiple I/O requests more quickly. When the paging file is on the boot partition, Windows must perform disk reading and writing requests on both the system folder and the paging file. When the paging file is moved to a different partition, there is less competition between reading and writing requests.

And/or
Upgrade to W7 64 and buy another gig of ram.
And/or
Buy a really fast 2-4 gig USB thumb drive to use for 'ready boost' ( I think 7 still has it)
And/or
Dfrag HD often
And/or
If you have more than one cpu or 'core' you can set the 'affinity'(force the game to run on one cpu or core only) through your shortcut by adding
AFFINITY 2
to your shortcuts 'target' string like this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" start /AFFINITY 2 +fullscreen 1
Your shortcut can do more. I use:
start +widescreen 1 +szx 1600 +szy 1200 +restart +playerName xxxx +playerPassword xxxx

Replace XXXX with your user name and password

Adding this string bypasses the startup video, logs you in and takes you directly to the server browser.

However the page file tweak is something I do as a thumb rule your can also add to that sticky to force the pagefile in the fastest hard drive. (Also It would have been hard to associate my problem to Lag / Shuttering which i dont have)

Buying just the 1 Gig of RAM dont help my case I use Triple channel DDR3 MEmeory so it is 3 banks or 6 (I cant afford at this time another 130 euros in 3 more gigs else my GF will force me to change all the courtains i nthehouse lol)

My old RIG had just 2gigs and the game ran smooth.

The game is installed in an Empty 1TB disk I have not checked defrag but I would say it must be low in such circumstances.

I didnt knew the affinity switch on the shortcuthow can that help me ?

So what have you actually installed? What files and in what order?

If you have installed PR core and levels, then it looks like you are referering to some PR 0.8xx version files. There is no patch from PR 0.874 to 0.909. Due to massive amount of changes, only full installers part 1 & 2 were ever released for PR 0.909.

If you have 0.9xx era installers, what version they are? And what patches you have installed after them, if any?

I installed:

BF2v RESTARTED
The 1.41 Patch RESTARTED
The 1.5 Patch RESTARTED
PR 0.909 part 1 and 2
PR Patch 0.917

In that order

Have you moved BF2 & PR to a different location after you installed it?

That std_archive_mod.md5 file is so simple, that you can examine it by hand. It's a text file that can be opened with notepad and it should be exatly like this:

Sometimes using the 'patch' (for newer version of PR) hasn't worked for me.
I suggest you uninstall PR.
This can easily be done via the Windows Control Panel
'Add and Remove Programs' icon, under "Project Reality 0.x".*,
then delete the PR folder to remove any leftover files.
Don't forget to delete the desktop short as well.
Reboot and use the FULL .917 installers part 1 and part 2.
Project Reality v 0.917 uses TWO separate Client Installers and should be installed in this order:
First
v0.917-part1 of 2
followed by
v0.917-part2 of 2
(Part 2 installer should make a desktop short cut.)
If you get any errors, download a new installer from a different source and try again.
I think anytime you have problems after a 'patch' and the usually suspects have been cleared it's worth a shot to uninstall, reboot then reinstall with the FULL version.

Clueless; thanks but a reinstall got rid of the MD5 problems and yes I had moved the game folder after installing so probalby PB was looking for it in the old folder from some reference in the registry.
