Hello, I am running an Asus G72GX with 6 Gigs of ram, a Nvidia 260m, and a duo core p8900's. I have Windows 7 Home edition 64 Bit. I just bought BF2 and installed it, then following the instructions, installed BF2:SF and patches 1.41/1.5
I have been looking around on the support forum, and tried clearing my cache, replacing the BF2 folder, running in a window, changing the default resolution, Uninstalling and reinstalling, and pretty much every other possible solution mentioned on the threads.
None has worked for me. My computers own debugging program tells me that it is a compatibility issue between W7 and PR, but i have run it with the windows XP service pack compatability options and it did not avail.
When running in windowed mode, i get this error before PR crashes.
Debug Assertion Failed!

If you understand how to fix this please help!
Much Appreciated.

Re: PR Startup then simply exit.
You definitely have something broken there, but because I don't know what exactly you have done so far with compatibility settings etc., I suggest doing complete re-install.
All the actions you did while trying to get PR working might have left some residues into Windows Registry and around your hard drives, so if the problem persist you might have to manually clean some uncommon locations. But we'll get into that later.
When re-installing, use default locations when possible, don't use any compatibility tweaks during or after install. Also make sure all compatibilty settings really are disabled, because Windows stores them into registry and deleting a file will not delete the respective setting in the registry.
For BF2 you can install files in the order you did earlier (BF2 - BF:SF - 1.41 - 1.5), followed by PR 0.917 full part 1 & part 2. After those, install PunkBuster Services and update PunkBuster using PBSetup. You have to manually add BF2 to PBSetup. When doing that, make sure PBSetup detects your BF2 install folder correctly. Finally, if you want to run PR without admin rights, give your user account modify permissions to BF2 install dir's mods folder.
At this point you should have working BF2 setup, but to be on the safe side you can also install all the updates from Windows Update, update all your drivers related to multimedia and gaming (video, audio, controllers, etc) and install the latest DirectX.
Now you shold be good to go, but before trying to play PR, start regular BF2 once and create or retrieve the profile your are going to use with PR.
If you still can't start the game, open My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\<number>\video.con with notepad and make sure the line VideoSettings.setResolution contains your monitor's native resolution and refresh reate. It should look like something this:
VideoSettings.setResolution 1920x1200@60Hz
Then do the same for the file My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Default\video.con.
