Pixels going funky

Post by AnimalMother. »

I appear to have developed a lot of pixels that aren't displaying properly

Behaviour
They behaving weirdly, I can't screen shot them. I can cover them with my mouse/cursor. They move about and if i scroll sometimes disappear but will come back if something moves on the screen. they are various colours though the majority are shades of grey. some times theres a lot of them, other times not many.

heres an attempt at taking a photo of them

Image

all help appreciated.

Ive never really seen anything like this 0_o. So this is in game or it just happens anyways? Have you recently changed anything or did it randomly start happening?

Is your graphics card overclocked by any chance?

nothing is overclocked in my system

gpu sits at 40degC idle and varies between 50degC to 65degC ingame, with no performance drop noticed in game

today i'm going to try switching out to a different monitor and then different combinations of cables

Did you try rebooting? I had something like this happen once when I was playing simcity 4, its 16-bit and when it crashed it fucked up everything on my desktop. Every pixel seemed to be of random color, tho some windows and cursor did show properly, was very weird. Reboot fixed it.

well initially a reboot did nothing, but when i turned it on after it being off over night (use term loosly) it seemed to sort itself out and work fine again. I just hope it doesn't crop up again

They've returned

I've tried it with two different monitors and switched between DVI and VGA with no effect, the only advance i made was disabling my primary display adapter (Radeon 5770 series).

I'm guessing this means i've overheated my GPU at some point and done damage because like i said before it isn't having overheating issues atm and games run fine, its just the dam dots everywhere

Someone with good knowledge confirm i have damaged it, are there any test i can do to see if it is damaged? or are there any other things i can try?

What (Catalyst) driver version do you use ?
There was a known issue with "grey screen of death" on the ati 5xxx series, that got resolved
afaik with the newer 10.2 and 10.3 drivers.
I have 2x5770 Radeons btw, don't think yours are damaged.

I am on Cat. 10.4 the cards are Sapphire, only had a few problems in the past.
All had to do with the drivers/power-play.No issues with 10.4 however.
I always uninstall everything first, then load the drivers after reboot, even with the option
to upgrade (the drivers) in one shot.
