We-e-ell.. you _could_ take the Essex and just give it a Chinese flag. I mean, it makes sense that they would try to copy our Carriers..
Maybe make a new static to cover the numbers/other US-Identifiable markings on the carrier. Don't even have to make any changes to the Essex itself. The problem is PR doesn't have any kind of reliable catapulting/arresting system so I personally recommend against having jets. However I wouldn't mind seeing the Chinese attack from an offshore ship (the current setup is awkward especially with the HESCO base -- who's attacking who..?) or perhaps even start on the existing cargo ship with a Z-10 spawning once they capture Oil Storage. I would also reduce the number of US Hueys to 2 and give them a Hydra Huey or Cobra, or both.
A sort of Qwai-Barracuda mix on the assets would be nice though -- perhaps a non-respawning tank or two for the Americans and no attack helicopter for the Americans where the Chinese would get no heavy assets except for an attack helicopter. I'd also love to see a huge view-distance; the island could make for incredible long-range combat.
Or if you find a modeller, forget the attack helo for the Chinese and give them one of these

Theoretically the Chinese might copy the Essex, but they haven't and if they did I imagine they would at least try and make it look different.Startrekern wrote:We-e-ell.. you _could_ take the Essex and just give it a Chinese flag. I mean, it makes sense that they would try to copy our Carriers..

IMO passing the Essex off as a fictional Chinese equivalent would unneccesarily degrade the standard of authenticity and quality in PR.
There are no Nimitz aircraft carriers in PR to put the system on anyway, the Essex only operates helicopters and harriers off it's deck.Startrekern wrote:The problem is PR doesn't have any kind of reliable catapulting/arresting system so I personally recommend against having jets.

Re: [Map] Wake Island (4km) [WIP]
I'd honestly thought about that a bit. Outside the few options I could think of to protect them, the storm causing high waves and impassable parts of the island would have made a natural land barrier. Supposedly giving time for them to build up a small base in a vain attempt to keep their remaining supplies safe and dry-er. I'd figure it took about 6 hours for the storm to pass... not a meteorologist though, so just a guess.Startrekern wrote:...(the current setup is awkward especially with the HESCO base -- who's attacking who..?)...
Not like they were short on dirt near by or bags/hesco from a cargo container.
[edit] That was a good point on the catapult system. Never dawned on me.
and I'm already doing enough to degrade the authenticity of PR on this mapSnazz wrote:... IMO passing the Essex off as a fictional Chinese equivalent would unneccesarily degrade the standard of authenticity and quality in PR. ...

I could probably do a PR:Lego using hesco and even retexture it to look like ice that melts away after an hour.[R-CON]DankE_SPB wrote:...chinese are building Shi Lang(ex- Varyag, project 1143.6) carrier...
(slight whiff of sarcasm there and reference to floating ice carrier attempts of WWII)

With the current Chinese loadout (no jets) you should just make the current HESCO Base have the tunnels/bunkers from Barracuda on it, make it a flag, and have the Chinese start offshore in a ship. (a la Beirut)

There are many types of Assault Ships (which is what the USS Essex is) out there. The most common and upto date PLAN Assault Ship is the Type 071.Snazz wrote:Theoretically the Chinese might copy the Essex, but they haven't and if they did I imagine they would at least try and make it look different.

Its a LPD (Landing Platform Dock) which can carry/launch helicopters (mostly the PLAN version of the Z-
This is really the only option for China to launch an assault on the island, from the sea.

Re: [Map] Wake Island (4km) [WIP]
I can't in good conscience repeat the savage landing of vbf2's wake. I think getting the para drop up north and removing the ground spawn/vehicles there will help. I also had a hard time figuring out a way to let the CP capture order 'flow' for a somewhat logical manner of attack. I kind of got lucky[duct-tape] it's workable at all and an extra flag could be problematic... unless you find some spots for alternate CPs.Startrekern wrote:...and have the Chinese start offshore in a ship. (a la Beirut)
I did think about putting more, smaller CPs in each area at real control point locations (choke point, wide FOV and/or good cover areas). But again I go back to if they can be logically ordered for a smooth fight as well as what the engine handles.
and with this:'[R-DEV wrote:Rhino;1355137']... This [LPD] is really the only option for China to launch an assault on the island, from the sea. ...
I take it they wouldn't exactly fall for a cargoship sneak attack?Wake Island Marine assets include two LCM-8 vessels utilized as cargo handling lighters that unload the MSC supply ships. The supply ships moor approximately 200 meters off the mouth of the harbor channel for off loading.
edit: strike that as I was confused with MSC being various types of ships, and when I searched it they all came up military...but they can be regular cargoships

You could go with the Iwo Jima storyline, that is steady bombardment for a long period of time and then an assault by landing force. Maybe some craters here, there and everywhere..

This is in the year of a ficticious world based off of our own military reality... Its not implausible to hand wave that the PLA has a Navy now and began an attack on the US. Maybe factor in the Russian Navy aiding them instead?
I mean this is (PR) turning into WWIII sans nukes.

Posted the updated download (UG included this time). This will be the last update for a while and am thinking this is an audit(?). If you beg to differ, let me know.
As I say in the editor notes, someone with more experience could have a hay day sprucing up the map and one is needed to help finish it. I started to feel I was doing more damage than good, hence the stopping point.
and "for the sake of everything good and holy in this world", please don't scrap this.
oh and Rhino... my last post was a typical quick and dumb comment. I get what you were saying... : It's not that they wouldn't fall for one it's that they are incapable of carrying out a sea based attack from a cargo ship. My brain just can't resist following someones logical post with an illogical wind-bagged one. If a Russian opfur would work better atm, I'm all for what works.
Thanks ahead for any help along with that which made this possible...a much more respected mod/dev community.
[can't think of anything else to say on the suck-up side]

Not that they wouldn't be capable of carrying out an amphibious assault via "cargo ships", they in fact have a bunch of "Large Landing Ships" which are basically converted cargo ships.

Type 072-II (Yuting Class) Large Landing Ship - SinoDefence.com
Most of the PLAN's amphibious assault force is made up of them right now but there newest ships are proper LPDs etc.
The problem really is, without an aircraft carrier or some other form of air support, an amphibious assault on an island with a large military airbase is suicide in r/l, thou we might be able to make an exception for this map but ye, really you want an aircraft carrier supporting it.

why cant we just say the AC is over the horizon carrying out air superiority, that way the PLAN can also get JDAMS, but dont have to actually show up with a carrier

In my opinion, gameplay > realism that isn't all that game-breaking.
Not to say that what you've said is wrong or anything, just keep that thought in mind when deciding who's attacking who and by what means. Take Beirut for example, not the best example of realism if you ask me, but it is definitely one of the most interesting maps to play on.

I recall this map was about a fictional PLAN assault on wake during a storm and all planes would be grounded and the assault forces scattered/dispersed, is that scenario dumped for I keep seeing discussions and suggestions on aircraft carriers

Re: [Map] Wake Island (4km) [WIP]
would have to be a pretty serious storm to ground aircraft when an amphibious assault was going on, which with it being that serious an amphibious assault would probably not be even feasible, with also them having to plan in advance to attack in a storm which needs to last the same amount of time from them to sail from there port to the island and attack it, and then hope it lasts as long as its predicted too? sounds quite far fetched to me and achieves nothing more than saying the carrier is out beyond the horizon
