Yet another commander thread: UAV
not sure if theres already a thread or not but there prolly is one however im planning on going into 15 whiskey in the US army which i know someone thats in it as a UAV pilot so heres my what i think am i the only one that thinks they should add a hellfire system for the UAV i do realize that hellfire would be irritating for armored maps with hellfires and maybe also for caches on top of buildings i suppose but each UAV stays up for what 10 mins and takes 10 mins to get it again so how about each UAV gets 2 hellfires on it so 2 hellfires every 10 minutes and the commander arty aspect gets taken out and we use the mortar system that sniper dogs making so the commander gets a hand on destruction system thus making more people play commander and getting rid of the off world arty all together what do you guys think of that? just an idea

Re: Yet another commander thread: UAV
1) not possible, the UAV is coded as a missile fired from the command post, a missile cant fire missiles in the BF2 engine
2) arming the UAV with hellfires would mean the commander would focus more on finding a good target than recon and commanding.
3) I don't think the UAV in PR is supposed to be a predator or a reaper but something smaller (think hand launched)
4) this is a re-re-re-re-suggestion

Re: Yet another commander thread: UAV
Totally agreed with the second poster - commander should be encourages to command rather than to hunt. Artillery is requested by a sl and then accepted by the Commander thus it is teamwork enhancement and should not be removed.
However I slightly agree with the OP as well. The commander position is unpopular and one of the ways to increase it's popularity is to increase UAV's capabilities.
Here are few things that should be taken into consideration:
A) Removing the frames. If the purpose of these are to simulate the computer screen, then it should be known that most of us are playing this game through a computer display.
B) Zoom feature.
C) Turnable camera
D) The UAV should be marked on the map.

You can't add weapons to an invisible and invincible flying object. It would be WAAAAY over powered.

Re: Yet another commander thread: UAV
totally agree with everything you suggested here. No hellfires, just improve the recon abilities of the UAV. And may I suggest also giving the UAV a compass like all the other units have so you know what direction your flying. It's annoying to constantly have to look at the map and zoom in all the way to tell which way your headed.Hoxzer wrote:Totally agreed with the second poster - commander should be encourages to command rather than to hunt. Re: Yet another commander thread: UAV
I think that the speed of the UAV should be slowed down, its really hard to do anything with it.
- One of the reasons is because when I use the UAV, I normally follow Enemy INF running to a cache location, but suddenly the UAV screen is over the man, and you have to get all the way around to see him again, but he's gone.

How about a auto pilot that would circle around the target?Fruerlund20 wrote:I think that the speed of the UAV should be slowed down, its really hard to do anything with it.

Not good either way. It's not here for a good reason.

Obviously something needs to be looked at and re-designed.Cp wrote:1) not possible, the UAV is coded as a missile fired from the command post, a missile cant fire missiles in the BF2 engine
BTW a drone with missles instead of artillery would actually be more realistic.
I don't know **** about coding but I see problems when I see it.

Re: Yet another commander thread: UAV
nah man, artillery is far more realistic than armed drones. If you bring grunts, then you bring artillery with you, besides from what I've heard armed predators are mainly used by CIA operatives. (or were, this information is quite old)

Re: Yet another commander thread: UAV
If there was some way of controlling UAV speed (how about the previous fuel suggestion for jets from a LONG time age) you could have it go quicker for more fuel or slower for less fuel.
Also, the ability to have a minimap would be much appreciated.

I think the commander should have sawnoff shotgun so he can sprint into the enemy base and steal the flag!
A mildly controllable UAV would have been nice too. Though the present UAV is pretty handy already.

Re: Yet another commander thread: UAV
uhhh like i said 15 whiskey are UAV pilots and armored predators or reapers are quite common and also i played the beta of bad company 2 never bought it never will buy it and never used the UAV in the game so do not say im basing it off of BC2 and also can't it be coded *** a of world arty projectile it doesn't have to fire from the UAV the UAV controls the missile with the crosshair and when clicked it fires a hellfire from the sky just make it a off world arty projectile but i suppose it isn't possible to do something like that with the bf2 engine is it?

Re: Yet another commander thread: UAV
But think of all the paperwork the commander would have to file...
Not to mention the congressional hearings after each TKs
As someone who's begun commanding a lot recently, I do believe the speed and fixed camera were intentionally chosen as not to give the UAV too much power, basically preventing the commander from being able to follow any particular unit. Thus forces the commander to identify the target, relay information to pertinent squads and the continue searching and not act as a maphack to follow a tank/big red or whatever.
A small zoom would be nice if you want to more easily confirm whether a TOW is manned, or better identify types of infantry. But I hate not knowing the position of the UAV, not to mention the view of the UAV is offset from the actual position of the UAV. Especially on large maps where most landmarks do not show up on the minimap (e.g. the buildings in the village on archer). Open maps also are ridiculous (archer again) trying to discern one hill peak from another to identify infantry position. Maybe if the UAV was able to shoot lasers or markers/attack markers.
