Morning,

I'm really not sure where this should go, as it fits into a number of different categories... (Mods, feel free to move about).

I'm the Head of Signals for my CCF contingent (Combined Cadet Force), and am looking for a way to develop a C3 simulator for use in training cadets in passing messages.

(C3 = Command, Control, Communications)

I happen to have BF2 and PR, and looking at the way the game works has sparked my interest.

The implementation would be as follows;
BLUFOR and OPFOR AI able to handle section-level firefights and drills on their own.

An 'Observer' Class of player that cannot be killed, has no weapons, but can be the section IC and follows the section.

Possible; Manual artillery system where elevation data is fed to a player-manned battery.

How it would then work:

- 1 Section comes under attack from insurgents.
- Cadet in 'observer' sends Contact report via radio / intercom (We have these already) to Coy. HQ (Commander).
- Coy. HQ then issues orders to deal with this. - Tasking assets, ordering 2 section to flank, etc.
- 2 Section IC cadet then orders his squad to flank.
- Result of this engagement then sent back to Coy. HQ

Ideally, we'd have it a 'level up' as it were, to have a Coy. net rather than what is essentially a Platoon net.

Possible; Fire mission ordered to Battery IC (cadet) Who works out elevation data based on map. Elevates guns and Fires for Effect. FO(Or JTAC) then corrects guns.


This wouldn't be implemented into PR as such - It would be a mod for personal use. My question is really,

Is it Feasible with the limitations of the Engine?

I'm reasonably competent with Python, and have CG experience, (I used to model for a Flight Simulator)

AI is very limited in BF2. They can defend and attack. Also can choose different paths towards the goal. And thats about it.

Player manned artillery guns are possible, but not in the mod. (A mortar is being worked on though.)

The best thin is to make both teams filled with players and train that way. (You can "choose" the opfor defficulty level by telling the guys how to act.)
