[?] How to remove dome of death and a few other things?

Post by Gore »

On a local server of course. What files do i need to edit to remove dome of death? Also, how to make a player jump higher and throw grenades longer?

Thanks.

clueless_noob he cant move his thread, no need to repeat it.

At the bottom of the inti.con file is where the DOD setting live. You can manually edit them but I have found doing this sometime messes up the order and then your DOD is sorta of a weird X thats doesnt work. you can tr by adding 2000 to all the position numbers.

BTW you can just remove it as the world will then be out of bounds. You have to have a DOD so edit wisley

Where is the init file located? The only one I see has 2 lines with:

bf2Engine.playMovie Movies/bss_intro.bik 1
bf2Engine.playMovie Movies/PR_intro.bik 1

Then there's a folder called inits but that is factions.

Sorry GoreZiad got sidetracked here at work.

What you posted above is the DOD. Like you said:

Change:
CombatAreaManager.timeAllowedOutside 25.000000

CombatAreaManager.timeAllowedOutside 9999.000000

Im away from my desktop for the week so cant check (and if I could id have to sit and count that high ;) ), out of curiosity, is that the max number allowed before the changes are ineffectual?

Anyway, if you could look into the combat areas and find which ones are specific to each faction (naming a team instead of being for both teams) then you could simply delete that entire combat area and not have ANY time, even though 9999 seconds is already a good length...

for example,
CombatArea.team 0
means its not for any specific team, meaning both are affected by it and therefore its not a dome of death and thus one you want to leave in place. But there should be one for .team 1 and .team 2. Those entire combat areas can be removed and then you will still have the out of bounds for the edges of the map in place(CombatArea.team 0), but the combat areas specific to each team around enemy bases will be removed.

Hope this is coming across correctly, I believe this should do it. Also, for combat zones that are being used as domes of death there should be a line of code in that combat area about something like "xxxxx.inverted 1" or something along those lines. Those are the ones that dont allow people INSIDE them(domes of death) and the ones that are not inverted are regular combat zones that dont let you OUT of them (like ones around maps)

This means you could get rid of any combat area that is inverted because its one thats being used as a combat zone... which you are trying to remove.

Make sense? Im a bit zoned out here, hope im not giving you incorrect info here...

Is it still inside the server.zip or client.zip when you are editing it?

If so, you might not have a program to save stuff inside zips... so youll have to unzip the entire zip, edit those gameplayobjects files and then rezip it back up.

It being 5 now instead of 25 was just because a mapper didnt want to have ANY room for people going out of bounds, apparently ;)

Is that folder also in the client.zip? I'm thinking but not really sure, that since you're not on a dedicated server its not going to read from the server.zip... but Im really no too sure to be honest...

Also try changing the number for all other gameplayobjects folders (all other variants, 16, 32, etc)

Check for the gameplayobjects folders in the client.zip as well

there is not a gameplayobjects file or gamemodes folder inside client.zip. only in server.zip. tried setting all the teams to 0 but it has no effect at all. and when i try and run the map in serverlauncher it says debug assertion failed because it couldn't find gameplayobjects.con. i hope its just me being incompetent.

setting teams to zero makes all combat zones affect ALL teams, I believe. setting to 1 or 2 makes them affect one team or the other.

if you find a combat zone that is set to team 1 or team 2 just delete its chunk of text (not just the team 1 line but the WHOLE combat zone with all its points)

only leave the one set to team 0 which is the one around the outside of the map.

Not sure what else to tell ya sadly :\
ill keep thinking
