Just joined the forums so I thought I'd post my first reply on this forum since you're getting "omg read the manual" (its the only thing some of these people have ever read through so they feel special)

Try downloading the single player addon to PR and go have fun. You can get comfortable with all the weapon systems and vehicles in the game easily this way. As for the objectives, they play like any other Tug of war style game you play. The objectives are labeled on the map.Apparently the newest version of PR has integrated COOP. on my linux build I had to do some toying around though. <----- sorry I couldnt commit a forum crime.

The gold shield is a general assault order and the purple shield is a defense order.

If you would actually read the manual, you would see that there is integrated COOP so you dont need a separate SP addon.

Fuck it lol, not gonna waste my time on that trap.

Didn't know that COOP was integrated now, however. - again, if you're on linux you may need to toy around a bit.

Thnx for being so l33t and proving my point by the way chizz.

Aside from the usual "read the manual"*, we've all been helpful and friendly here, until now. I've taken the time to explain the guy everything in detail through PM's, and he'll get the same amount of help on the servers from many players. No need to be that hostile, really.

*Which, by the way, is a helpful suggestion, as the manual DOES answer most questions.

Couln't agree more. Than manual is a great tool to learn how to play any game really. I just feel like some people use it to pad their ego. There's a difference between

"read the manual man, it has some helpful advice but it won't all be covered in there. I would also like to mention that if it's not in your language you will be out of luck until a later release. Try playing the game by joining a squad that doesn't mind having a newer player that is eager to learn.

and

"read the manual!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I don't mean to be overly negative but I believe its all tied to the "play how we want or GTFO" attitude.

There are plenty of games more difficult than PR and have better manuals at that. Go to their forums and tell me how many read the manual comments you see. Manual is great, but like I said earlier, it just seems like people are saying it because its the l33t thing to say server side.

Okay, I see your point Eric. There were indeed a few comments only saying "read the manual!", but most of us still helped him :)

I don't quite understand odrecon's comment now, though.

At the risk of RTM, which I have, "Many heavy vehicles battle for control of the map in
this game mode. Players are limited to spawning with crewman kits. Only officer and pilot kits can be requested."

How do you get a crewman kit? I spawned as an officer, checked inventory, checked the command tent, which also kills me. I also tried searching the forums but the search engine doesn't get you there.

Thanks to whoever provides a non-RTM answer,

Molo

When you're in a squad, walk up to a vehicle and press T, then select Crewman and leftclick again.

Pick it up with G.

Thanks Bosco,

I still really like the regular BF2, one thing is it takes a lot less longer to get into some action. But I just discovered that something happened to my regular BF2 after installing PR. I now can only fire one RPG, and even though my indicator shows the remaing rockets my toon won't reload.

I find PR interesting but for many reasons so far like BF2 more. I hope I can resolve this without a PR uninstall.

Your autoreload got turned off, either you press R to manually reload or you go to the Options menu in BF2 and turn Autoreload back on.

Generally it is recommended to use two seperate profiles for BF2 and PR so you don't have to do that every time you switch.

Somebody once told me the smoke canisters that the Abrams can fire is harmful, as in white phosphorus. Is this true?

And for that matter am I recalling that correctly in saying the Abrams can fire a physical round which is actually smoke? I think I may just be thinking of the smoke the driver can deploy.

Yes dtacs, the smoke granades used by the Abrams can be harmful. Its M250 grenade launcher can be fitted with various smoke grenade, among them the M76 which is a phosphorous smoke grenade.
source:Army Guide - M76, Smoke grenade

it can fire more types of smoke grenades, like the UKL8A1, UKL8A3, M81, or M82 but i'm having a hard time finding information on these, anyways,
source:http://www.inetres.com/gp/military/cv/tank/M1.html

and I'm pretty sure it can't fire smoke rounds.

The M1 Abrams use the M250 SGL, which are primarily used to deploy an RP Grenade, or Red Phosphorus. The smoke provides both visual and limited IR screening, but also produces phosphine gas. Phosphine can be deadly if inhaled too much, which is why some units use an alternate "training" round at times.

Then of course there is the obvious fact that you are showering the area with PHOSPHORUS, which will burn on contact. I sure as hell wouldn't want to be standing in the area when they pop a salvo.

As for a 120mm smoke munition, there are none that the US military uses in their M1 variants. Some other nations are known to use similar munitions with their MBT's, but in my opinion they are of very limited use.

And in real life, the driver of an Abrams does not have control over the SGL. The control panel for the SGL is in the turret only, and can be fired by anyone in the turret that can reach the panel.
