In game chat

Post by bigbear948 »

So do people mainly use Teamspeak or Mumble in PR at the moment ? I don't have any friends that play PR, so I don't like the idea of complete strangers hearing my voice while I'm in a server , is there any voice distorter thing I could use ?

Both. Teamspeak is used mainly be clans and communities to co-ordinate and chat etc, whilst almost every PR server has a channel on the PR Mumble Server which everyone is free to use to communicate in-game. Ofc any comms system is only ever as good as the people who are using it and some servers do not actively promote/endorse the use of mumble, and generally in my experience those that do provide a better overall experience.

As regards voice distortion im not really sure why you'd want to do that, the PR community really is very friendly and helpful to new players especially those with a willingness to get involved and use a microphone to communicate.

The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end... "

don't worry about people hearing your voice mate, its just another voice in 2-3rounds worth of gaming you'll hear around 120 different people's voices mumble, even more if the server has merged team channels.

When i first started out with a mic i wouldnt say a word, but after a while you get to know a few people and you just get used to speeking to them, then you can pretty much talk to anyone.

Whenever i play i scream to everybody! And they scream back, you should start screaming.

:D

No, but like they say, its a friendly community, jokes are all around for me that is anyway, its a game, not a job. So get loosey loosey ;)

mumble is good, if you can find a server where the majority of your team is one mumble it'll be such a better and more enjoyable experience.

as for the voice distorter, given the anonymous nature of the internet coupled with lots of other people with weird and wonderful accents you will just be another voice in my head driving me to madness (the voices in my head, they never cease!). and hey over time people might start to recognise your voice and those random internet strangers become friends of sorts.

get out there and get chatting!

Just to echo the above, even if you dont want to talk being on mumble can help as you will hear alot more than you would normally, assuming you are on a server which uses mumble actively.

Trust me, you'll get used to it. Unless you don't, which if you don't use your microphone your Squad Leaders may kick you from the squad assuming you don't have a microphone at all. Then, if you are on mumble with a fellow smurfantry squad, and you don't call out in Mumble that 20 insurgents are behind them all, waiting for their deviation to settle, well... that's your call too. Don't worry about a voice distorted, its... distorting.

I promote Mumble use. Team Speak is normally only used by clans and such, as said above.

With my mates we are using Skype for the last 2 days. It is just amazing. Don't have to push any buttons, free of any lag or delay. We are just chatting and talking like we are all together. Even during map changes, if someone's game crashes or etc. Plus perfect sound quality. Only disadvantage is we have to use headphones but with a quality product it is no problem at all.

You should totally get a Vocoder, then not only will your anonymity be assured, you can also amaze your squad mates with renditions of popular Krafwerk, Daft Punk and Cher hits.

I love my sound card, many lulz has happened with it. Cept when I forget to turn it off.
