That really depends on how much of his RAM is being used and what GFX settings he is playing at. If not all of his 4gbs is being used (which is most likley unless he has other big programs running in the bg) then ye, it will not make much difference to FPS etc.

No it can't BUT like clueless said, other apps being able to use the memory can make sure that BF2 or w/e other program is running can get the full 4gbs if it needs.
I currently have 6gbs of RAM, mainly because of all the modding work I do, running 3DsMax, Photoshop and the BF2 editor all at the same time, I really need the RAM to ensure for smooth running and no crashes (thou the BF2 editor can still sometimes be bitchy as always, just not soo much about memory now

) and lightmapping uses shit loads of RAM, epically when doing it in Max with a full map being loaded hehe.
I would btw be using 8gbs if one of my RAM sockets on my MB didn't fry
But for just gaming alone, 4gb should really be sufficient for most games but upgrading RAM can not hurt (unless its really, really shitty ram

)
