A way to award for lazes?

Post by Conman51 »

I know this was posted before and said it was impossible to give people points for a laze that guides in a bomb to kill.

BUT a few days ago i was playing FH2 and i marked a target for a mortar strike, when the mortar hit and the gunner got a kill I got a message saying, you got a spotter kill assist or something like that. So im pretty sure this is possible in PR or something similar to it

Maybe a DEV could ask for coding help from FH2???

While I absolutely oppose the idea of a message appearing, I am for the idea of the player being awarded a team point for lazing.

Isn't the award of crippling an enemy's asset good enough for you ? :)

No I know what you mean, physical points. Do we need them?

Yeah, we do. I want some credit for the kill when I lase, not the pilot taking all the glory.

personally i couldn't care less for the ingame points.

i only use them to give me a hint of how the team is doing and that is pretty much it.

True, but it would be nice to be recognized by the team for doing the jobs most people would rather not. A perfect example of this would be how running logistics and building FOBs now gives you a ton of points, where before, this was not the case.

Points are valuable, to an extent. It is comforting to me that my abysmal kill/death ratio isn't the only thing people see when they check the score sheet. I'd rather not be dismissed as useless, and if I'm competitive on the scoreboard, I feel better about having no kills and a handful of deaths. I play PR because it's fun to be a valuable part of a team effort, and I get to play roles that allow others to be the star, or allow a squad or the whole team to take the glory. If certain helpful actions are reflected on the score sheet and others are not, one feels less useful if their efforts are not yielding any points and it's easy to worry others see them that way too.

Now not all helpful activities are given points, and that isn't necessary anyways. I'm just pointing out that if an activity is genuinely good and could be scored accurately enough with little enough fuss, it ought to be.

Not only that, but it reinforces that the activities that earn points are helpful. It's a subtle cue for new players about which things are good to do, especially if they spend time in co-op before hitting live servers. Earning points for dropping supply crates is a hint that driving the logistics truck can be a legitimate role on a live server.

Anyways, it would be cool if points were available for lasing targets, and the FH2 example suggests there may be a way to do it. On the other hand, that does not imply that it would be a simple change. Not a big deal if this suggestion fails the devs' cost/benefit analysis.

It would be alright to get this ingame if possible, but these days i only ever check the score board to see how my ping is holding up or if it's my computer having a fit.

The huge KABOOOM and seeing the thing go down is an award.

It should definitely be possible because I know in BF2142 this kind of pointing system was used. Need or benefit for PR can be discussed though. Although it is totally meaningless on profit-base I have to confess that I feel much better when I get high scores or become top squad. It kind a gives me feeling that I did something for the team.

People like to see numbers go up. If you can get people to do an often thankless task by making numbers go up, sounds good to me :p

The award is you see your enemies burning, flying, and laughing or crying. Aka Fireworks

Points really don't matter in PR compared to other mods, its all about the experience and fun you had doing it.

The way i think the laser works is like a weapon that fires invisible heat signature projectile - why not make it damage the tank a tiny, tiny bit correct some settings and when the tank gets blown up the guy that lased gets assist kill - its possible in BF2 if you damge a tank and then a team mate kills it you get 1 point for kill assist.

I'm just confused as to how so many people can't laze properly. So hell, yeah I'd like people to get rewarded for a good lase so they can actually learn, "You mark contact distance first, click the type of mission, get an affirmation, and this is how you lase."

Is there a way of giving points if a lase disappears prematurely... which would happen if the target goes down...

One problem is that it could of been something else other than CAS that killed the target.

And two, only points for veh or emplacements.

I personally love lazing targets for airplanes and choppers. I don't care about those points. Sure, having your name as a Squad Leader in the Top Squad is sure nice, but I wouldn't say that not lazing targets is not rewarding.

In fact I've never seen someone arguing about not wanting air support.... When there's CAS up I try to use it a bloody lot.

I'm sorry, you obviously don't understand the point of PR. Please go back to Vanilla.

The point of PR is teamwork, don't get all point-hording because points don't mean jack in PR.

Awarding for lases with points? Meh, refer to my point above that points don't mean jack.

even today I was playing as medic on Muttrah, I had over 1000 points and a 2/10 k/d ratio, yeah I died way too damn much but I was doing nothing but healing and reviving. I ran out of epipens like 3 times,

PR is all about teamwork, which is why its the best game ever! screw points, just be mature and go do something productive to the team....like lazing.... ;-)
