Battlefield Vietnam on Vista

hey guys. i tried installing bfv on my laptop with vista, but it doesnt play right, even after reinstalling. i get ingame, everything works fine, but when i spawn, i cant shoot, walk, or open menus. the only thing that works is the mouse axises: look up down and sideways. now in the main menu (not in a battle) mouse clicks and keys work fine, just not ingame. any ideas to fix this? anybody else have this problem?

btw im running it under compatibility mode, as administrator, and the firewall isnt blocking anything

I've read a few posts about the controls getting cleared out. I think it was with regular BF2, not Vietnam, but worth a shot to check it out.

nope not that, all of the correct keys are assigned in the settings

its weird because only ingame is when the keys and mouse buttons dont work. though for some reason if i click the tilde (`) key, the console still comes up and i can type in that, but i cant walk or shoot or enter vehicles ingame
