Rework the infantry squad request kit system

Post by Astromici »

Here's a radical idea: Have the player be able to spawn with his choice of squad-limited kit if he wishes after he dies! This would eliminate compition for squad-based kits like Marksman, LAT, AP, etc. and also equip each squad with what's neccesary to fulfill their duties. Here's how this would work:
  • Game starts
  • Player selects a squad-limited kit
  • This kit is now bound to him
  • Player dies and respawns.
  • He can request the kit that he has selected previously or stick with the spawnable kit he has now.
  • If he decides to use the spawnable kit, the limited kit is no longer bound to him.
  • Therefore, he can no longer request it next time he respawns.
  • Switching kits for more than 30 seconds also releases the bound kit.
However, we could also have an unlimited number of squad-based kits per team, but make it so that each squad can only have one kit of each type, and make it impossible to grab another off the ground. Any squad based kit you request from a crate or supply depot or APC is automatically bound to you until you decide otherwise, then you have to go request another for it to bind again.

This would encourage teamwork by having squads stick together so they could make use of all their resources as well as make it so that each squad will always have the tools they need to fulfill their objective. Discuss!

Well, I suppose you are talking about the infantry kits, right?

Now something I didn't get very right... You always spawn with the limited kit or only the first time, and then you can request it?

Also, wouldn't this lead to LAT spam?
Guys, when a new player comes, just answer his question and go on your merry way, instead of going berserk! It's THAT simple! :D

So if you take a limited kit once and die, if you don't ask for it again immediatly you can't get it untill you respawn?

Well that sucks

You can allready have your limited kit after you die.

Call for a medic.
Let the medic revive and heal you.
Wait 120 seconds.
Off you go.
???
PROFIT!

If you die with it, its your fault, why would you deserve it after respawning. Do some work with the rifleman.

You are not suggesting anything with this, the necesarry kits (except grenadier) are all spawnable, the others are limited for a reason.

Not only is this a particularly confusing, not to mention counter-productive, method of kit requesting it sounds suspiciously hard-coded to me anyway and as CRF says, it is the complete opposite of what the kit limiting system is set out to achieve.

I have to agree with Jiggy I'm having a hard time understanding exactly what you are trying to say here.

In short: If you request a limited kit, you can have it at every respawn until you decide otherwise, but no squad can have two of the same limited kits.

It's basically having a "I called this kit" system, I think.

You click what kit you want "saved", spawn as a regular kit, like they are now, and then wait until you come to a crate, which you can request it.

I only see problems and bugs with this idea.

I'm saying that it can be requested without a crate and immediately upon spawn.

Then that leads to AT spam, and leaves supply crates useless, besides giving ammo and building fobs. I'm sure the DEV team tested this ^^

This isn't going to happen a) because spawning with a limited kit rather removes the point of the kit being limited (this has actually been suggested before anyway) and b) it is completely counter-productive to the objective of the kit limiting system, to move away from the vanilla standard of spawning with anything you want and c) I suspect that it is not possible to implement on the BF2 engine.

Limited kits are meant to be valued and are a reward for organising a squad and logistic chain efficiently to gain a kit that may give you a tactical advantage, not a set of uber1337 kits that should be put into action at any given opportunity. As others have said, spend some time with that most under-appreciated of classes; the riflemam, as you'll find it very useful indeed.

Locked, as it just won't ever get in-game meaning further discussion is useless.
