Remove or Change Grapple SFX

Post by Operator009 »

As it is now, the grapple can be heard from like two blocks away. It completely deeats the 'stealth' aspect of having a grapple.

Could you atleast change it to the rock impact sound?

I think a big heavy metal hook hitting a concrete roof makes enough noise to make it realistic..

I don't think its meant to be stealthy.

Ok, but I still say it shouldnt be heard two blocks away...

A metal hook hitting a brick wall makes a dull thud, not some sort of ridiculous click that seems to stand out in gunfire.

Just for easy access, its fine the way it is. That clunk sound saved me many times;

its ingame because if you put enough ladders etc in a map it'll crash

not because its a super ninja tool

(though Brits use portable Ladders in afghanistan due to experiences in Northern Ireland: P)

I never hear the grapple noise from that far. But it shouldn't make a lot of noise.

Never thought it is that noisy. Recalling yesterday's Fallujah map. While defending a cache caught someone throwing a hook from other side of the wall. I was like 40-50 meters away with a direct view. Heard of nothing.

In a totally silent neighborhood where the sound of gunfire is only distant, it is very distinct and you can track down many a sneaky blufor squad that way.

remove the grapple hook and put in the combat ladder!

never heard it that far away. Only when there's no shooting and it's roughly 50m max

I can only hear it at a distance below 30 meters. And most of the time, there's some heavy shooting at least somewhere close enough to cover the sound of the grapple.

Since you are complaining it is to loud and not "stealthy" enough, I guess you are usually getting killed after using a grapple? (No insulting intended here!) Could it be possible that the enemy SAW the grapple instead of hearing it? Because if you get killed instantly after climbing it means the enemy had that point in his sights or was at least really close to it.

If this is right, then I've got a little advice for you:

1. Don't use the grapple if not absolutely necessary!
2. If it is absolutely necessary to use the grapple AND there are enemies close: also use smoke to conceal the point on which you will appear as well as have someone to cover you while you are climbing. Also go prone once you've climbed up the rope. The chance of you getting hit will notably decrease.

If I have a specialist in my squad I usually try to convince him NOT to use the grapple.
