Grapple Hook Disappears Too Fast

Hi.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of playing in a clan battle against RIP and I used the grapple hook and it disappeared in what seemed like less than a minute. I was waiting for a squad mate and I found it humiliating and annoying that it disappeared before they reached it.

Is there a reason for the short deployment time?

It can't be rearmed either can it?

Any thoughts from the community?

Any words from Devs?

I really think it should be possible to be left where thrown indefinitely.

I dont see any reason why it shouldnt be

I agree that hooks should remain unless picked up (even if you resupply and throw another), but are they connected to the player_kit just like mines for Engineers (they disappear some minutes after they die); and if this is the case, can the expiry on grapple hooks not be the round time limit, say 4 hours etc?

If a hook is thrown to gain access up a cliff and the specialist leaves it for later use, it makes sense that both friend and foe can use that to their advantage, unless it is picked up later; and put a limit of say 5-10 ropes can be thrown (like the Engineer's 20 mines)?

lol, yes, keep it ingame for whole round unless picked up or at least /1. 30min/ or /2. too many are been placed by one person/
Also agree with Heskey it will need a limit otherwise we'll have mass black covered main bases however i was thinking less like 2-4. (exaggeration, but still possible)

About those questions, yes they can be rearmed but take alot of ammo (similar to HAT i think) and they stay for about 2 or 3 min last thing i knew but i usually am with my squad and like to keep it on me, plus i know that you don't need to throw it from half way in the building to rope down off a building just a simple RMB press.

Because as time goes on in the round you are going to find tons and tons of little black strings hanging off all the buildings.

Considering you could just get rearmed by a rifleman, a specialist could walk around making every building annoyingly accessible.

Expiriry a minute after death would leave me very happy.

The ability to keep it deployed is essential though... I don't care about being able to rearm them if we can keep one and have it so that it doesn't magically disappear.

To reitterate...

Make a maximum deployable number for ropes, like Engineer's mines - Between 1 and 10 per Specialist.
Rope does not disappear after death unless picked up by another specialist who doesn't currently have a rope, or a lengthy time period has elapsed (whole round if not removed by a player)?

The 'mine limit' will stop people making EVERYTHING accessable, or just griefing main etc.

I'd say one rope should be enough per specialist, but making the time limit longer is definitely a good idea.
you see you don't need a ton of ropes as you can pick them up when your squad is done using it, so long as the rope stays long enough to get your squad up and you to pick it up.

May want to leave rope for further squads, or reinforcements if you die (FB at base of cliff on Korengal for instance), or may need 2 ropes to get up a large cliff (rear of central hill fort on Korengal for instance)

What I exactly thought every time I lost one. Why it disappears anyways? At least make it like the kit system.

I don't know if you guys knew this, but you can also pick up friendly (blue) grapple hooks if yours is depleted...I don't know if this was intended or not, but would love for it to be addressed.

You can also pick up enemy ropes, even when they are using them. You must have deployed yours already for this to work, for example if you are on a roof and the enemy throws theirs up you can discard yours and pick theirs up :)

I would also like grapple hooks to last longer but can see the chances for exploitation leaving hundreds around. I think a maximum of 1 (maybe 2) but rearmable from ammo crates would be good...

It disappears after a minute and it can be reloaded at crates. Just remember to pick it up when not in use. You can always throw it again.

problem is not to reload it from fob i guess. problem is if u climb up no access building and leave it there most probably u will stay there until die or so whatever.

My concept folks is being able to make an area easily accessible or defendable with the aid of 4-5 ropes per specialist that don't expire unless picked up;

Multiple ropes up various unreachable building rooftops, or multiple ropes up a large cliff face where just having 1 or 2 ropes won't cut it, for instance. You're essentially building a ladder that both you AND the enemy can take advantage off (so no balance issues on that front).

PS. It's no bug that you can pick up friendly and enemy ropes; just as you can with mines - It's a rope!

You can gain another hook from a crate.
