How to fly Helo's

Post by obZen »

Hello I have no problem flying planes, but the Helos I just can't get. I can fly a KA-50 in DCS Black Shark on sim mode, but I can't fly a Huey in PR...

I don't know what it is, it's like I'll pitch forward to move and it will just dive too fast, and pulling back does little or nothing to bring it back up. Same with any movement really, it seems like once you commit to even the slightest movement it just goes full tilt and you can't bring it back.f

Anyone have advice or maybe some articles/youtube videos showing chopper tips.

I've tried both mouse and flight stick, and I think I'm even worse with the flight stick :S

Don't go 100% on the torque, go at least 60-70% or less

Remember the faster you go, the harder it is to turn and control

I disagree. I fly fine at full tilt all the time. If you're using a mouse, make sure that the mouse is picking up your movements. Don't use the keyboard it never works... add me on Xfire if you have it and I'd be glad to offer my flying tutorial skills to you xD xfire is: sexyleapord

No i'm not weird, I just cannot really explain it atm

M&K flying is pretty simple, just make sure the sensitivity is set up just right.

Watch the speed gauge, it isn't realistically accurate but it'll give you an indication of what to expect from the helicopter

with the huey a shallow dive should put you around the 700-800 mark where it'll be easy to control. Going steeper and over 1100 is when things start to get messy. best way out is tapping s whilst bank left or right, trying to pull up will pretty much fail. You can also barrel roll it out most of the time too though that can obviously go wrong

simple way of improving is practice, getting the 'feel' and flow of the choppers controls and then pushing yourself to do some outrageous manoeuvre.

that should cover basically an idea of what to do in the dive situation, unfortunately i'm not that good a teacher, though i try to help

Thanks for the tips guys, it's just been too long since my last stint at PR and flying attempts, I just forgot the hang of it, the issue was mainly too much throttle...

Just had a pretty successfull full match at Muttrah, ended up with 1 death after an hour or so where some hiding Mec got a lucky shot off with a LAT when I hit a LZ...we ended up losing the match ~50-0, but it wasn't so bad because at one point we had a squad in Mec fort, an inf and recon squad in city centre while Mec was capping North City and then went on to take docks...later on we got a good commander and I'd have to say the pilots did pretty good and we made a good comeback.

I got a half dozen or so drops off in the mountains hovering a few inches off the ground, I used to have a lot of trouble with those but they came easy this time :) Also highlight moment I dropped a squad off in South city, and then a crate off in the suburbs down south and dodged 2 AA missiles on the trip.

Hmm I was wondering if anyone can give me tips on controls, I fear mine were way off, I was using the same sensistivity (0.60) as for shooting, and I had yaw/pitch factor at 1 :O , in hindsight I'm glad I learned this way because it made me much more smooth, however it's not the best way to have it....

It seems when I put pitch factor up, I can fly the helo with the nose pointed down without losing speed, and I have much more control changing elevation, however the chopper is much slower like this, I can only reach 350kph in a huey, where I can hit 450-500 with the pitch factor at 1...what should it be at for huey trans?

edit: actually I don't know whats going on with the pitch factor, for some reason it feels like I'm going slower but maybe its just me...It feels way different with the pitch on anything but 1...

double: edit, I was on a coop server and i guess they handle differently there..anyway suggestions on control settings?
