BF2 win 7 issues
I upgraded from XP to windows 7 and installed Battlefield 2 (deluxe edition), then the 1.41 patch and then 1.5 patch. However, when I go to launch the game there is no splash screen, and the screen just goes black for 2 seconds and then goes straight back to the desktop without an error message. Does anyone know of a fix for this? or could it be as simple as just reinstalling the game?

Re: BF2 win 7 issues
I have the same issue with my desktop. From what I have read, this is the most common problem with Battlefield 2. The frustrating part however, is the fact that this problem can mean any number of problems with your computer. If anyone has a full proof fix, please post it here.

To get an error mesage right click the PR icon, then in target or destination, add +fullscreen 0 at the end, then it will give you an error message you can try and google.

Re: BF2 win 7 issues
Hmm, well i heard one solution for different kinds of crashes is "Try running it in a larger resolution than 800x600" though, i don't know if changing your resolution is possible if you can't actually start the game. Well sure i bet it's possible just maybe not that easy?Moldylunchbox wrote:I got this message:

Re: BF2 win 7 issues
How do I run it in a larger resolution than 800x600? Because my monitors resolution is already set to standard 1024x768. would there be a file I would have to edit in the BF2 folder in order for it to run at a desired resolution (because I can't change it in-game obviously if I can't even get to the splash screen)

Re: BF2 win 7 issues
I think I know our problem!
To find out if this is affecting you, follow the following instructions:
1.Open up the "Control Panel"
2.Click on "Hardware and Sound"
3.Under "Devices and Printers", Click on "Device Manager"
4.In the "Device Manager" window, Click on "Display adapters"
The "Display adapters" screen will show you your graphics card. If your graphics card is made by Intel, it means that you have an integrated graphics card. What this really means is that you don't have a true graphics card. Without a true graphics card, it is impossible to run BF2.
If you don't have an Intel graphics card, Google your graphics card name and find out whether it is an integrated card or not. If not, you may be able to run BF2 on your computer and your problem is solely based on resolution, refresh rate, incompatible graphics card, etc.

Re: BF2 win 7 issues
I have a Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS 512, running in a PCI express slot like it should be.
I have been able to play this game on the same system fine in the past, the only thing that has changed is that I've gone from XP to Windows 7.

Re: BF2 win 7 issues
I've tried every combination of resolutions and Hz possible, ive tried every compatibility mode and ran as admin. I've updated drivers, I've done everything I can think of...I don't know what do do any more
...Guess I'll just wait for ARMA client to come out because ARMA works fine.
The only thing I can think of is the game folder is in program files (x86) is there a difference between the normal program files and (x86)
I've also noticed there is no .con file in the C:\Users\(username)\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Default directory...
could someone do me a favor and open their video.con file in notepad and paste everything here so I can copy it and replace the file? There's a profile.con and a audio.con, but no video

Re: BF2 win 7 issues
AHA! It works now, I googled around to find a picture of what the default settings should be in the con file and opened up notepad and copied everything down and saved it
VideoSettings.setTerrainQuality 3
VideoSettings.setGeometryQuality 3
VideoSettings.setLightingQuality 2
VideoSettings.setDynamicLightingQuality 3
VideoSettings.setDynamicShadowsQuality 3
VideoSettings.setEffectsQuality 3
VideoSettings.setTextureQuality 3
VideoSettings.setTextureFilteringQuality 3
VideoSettings.setResolution 1024x768@85Hz
VideoSettings.setAntialiasing Off
VideoSettings.setViewDistanceScale 1
VideoSettings.setVideoOptionScheme 2
Runs fine now...for some reason when I installed the game there was no default settings for video so every time I went to run the game the computer was like "I don't know how you want this displayed!" and crashed.
so anyway, If you have the same problem just copy the video settings and paste them into notepad and save as a .CON.

Yeah, make sure you you save it here: C:\Users\(username)\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Default
also not sure if it matters or not but the "V" in Video.con is capitalized for me.

Re: BF2 win 7 issues
From what I've read it might be caused by a previous version of the game, if you've had they game on your hardrive before I'd suggest completely uninstalling the game and any addons or mods, and your BF2 in your documents and try a clean install.rapman_coolieo wrote:I get this message:
