Big guns, damage to jets

Post by Damian(>>>PL »

So, last time when i was playing on UKWF i hit 3x(if not more) in to F16 witch BMP 30mm cannon, sometching so delicate like f16 after even one hit into engine(from 30mm), or wing schould just go down(i sow only white smoke).

I want to suggest much bigger damage from all 50cals and higher guns, to jets.

PS. I dont belive that any jet witch 30mm hole in engine will be able to still fly(if he dont have secound engine).

That's an exception. Maybe 1 in 1000 chance of this happening. =\

bullets and guns arn't as effective as missiles due to the fact that a missile is designed to shred the control surfaces rather than impact and go off.

whilst an aircraft is relatively fragile they do employ measures such as self sealing fuel tanks to allow the aircraft to withstand a fair ammount of ballistic damage.

this is why they use flack in the form of AAA so the shells burst and produce shrapnel to do wide spread damage.

though i agree a hit from a 30mm HEAT should do a fair amount of damage.

just bring an AA vehicle with you next time

also remember that in PR ,due to view distance limitations the jets generally fly lower than their RL counterparts.

you cannot compare the a10 and su25 (designed to fly low and slow , therefor very armored) to an f16.

You can bet in real life that BMP's and .50 cals can't take out jets, since they fly uuuber high. Their targeting systems are also better then PR's. Since you can't fly high or fast in PR, they can withstand more damage.

that is true, I was just pointing out that it is possible for an aircraft to sustain very heavy damage and still be operable.

Single engine F16s (and other fighters) cannot compare to twin engine tank busters, that's like bringing a Ferrari to a demolition derby.

A10s are rugged beastly planes built around a massive 30mm gun, they are meant for low passes as their one of their limited roles is CAS. I could completely understand an A10 eating a few cannon rounds with the ability to RTB, but F16s should be easier to knock out of the sky SHOULD you actually hit it.

The obvious issue is that F16s would typically fly out of range, and too fast to accurately track. The odd chance they do a pass under 500ft you won't even see them long enough to know what just happened.

BF2 limitations in mind I believe it's another playability vs reality situation that seems to be the bane of PR devs. I think giving the fly boys a chance to save their ***.....ets only seems fair.

Also this. Create a local game and fire a couple BMP rounds at each jet while it's on the ground. It goes down quite quickly.

Well considering you hit it with HEAT, ans only 3 rounds, there's a fair amount of consideration since you did do some good damage either way. Imagine I'd you were using AP. I think they do enough damage, the airborne 30mm cannons on the MiG-29 do enough damage. 10 rounds is about what it takes to kill another jet.
