Waiting time after medic kit pickup

Post by General_Elbi »

Hello everyone,

I'd like to bring up an idea which is related to the following situation:
You are playing as a sniper and you discover a full enemy squad. You manage to kill the medic first, but one of the enemy players simply picks up the medic kit and resuscitates his comrade and the squad is fully operational again. As a result, it makes no difference whether you get the medic killed first or not.

This is why I got the idea to introduce a waiting time (maybe around 3-5 mins), which you have to wait until you are able to heal or resuscitate someone after picking up a medic kit. In other words, if the medic in your squad got killed, you can pick up the medic kit, but you'll have to wait 3-5 mins until you are able to heal or resuscitate someone.

This would make it a little more realistic, because in real life a medic can not be substituted by a random person as he has not the required medical knowledge. Also, this would increase the importance of killing the enemy medic first.

Please let me know what you think of that idea.

the medic ingame is just a soldier who has done the advanced first aid courses, that doesn't preclude other soldiers having the training, though when you've sniped someone, all you have to do is wait for the medic to come back shoot again as soon as the man is revived and poof, the man is dead dead.

Not to mention by shooting a medic you just forced those up to 6 people to stop, fall back for his downed mate, revive him, switch kit etc. Sure, shot him again, if you can to make even more disturbance.
Also that delay you're suggesting would mean that once the medic is down there would be really slight chance of reviving him. I bet that wouldn't encourage people to play medics.
(On the other hand, even though I'm skeptical, I'd give it a try, just to see what would happen.)

Wait this could work great, but not just for medics:

Make so NOBODY IS REVIVABLE FOR AT LEAST 2 MINUTES AFTER WOUNDED! That would represent the time it takes for the squad to reorganize after they lost one man.

I know reviving = fresh soldier in the field but why not make it so we don't have "insta-soldias"? Reviving is so quick nowadays!
Guys, when a new player comes, just answer his question and go on your merry way, instead of going berserk! It's THAT simple! :D

I'd like that suggestion, if the pickup-delay is only triggered when picking up the medic-kit after being shot down by a sniper and not an average rifleman, which is afaik not possible.

I don't think its wise to reinforce the power of the individual player and therefor weaken the power of the group.
If I'm running around as a SL having 5 ppl behind me, i don't want some stupid lonewolf to show up, kill my medic before getting shot down, forcing my squad to wait your suggested 3-5 minutes until we can revive our medic.

shorten wounded time to 30-90 seconds = problem half solved

medic kit unable to be picked up except by somebody who has selected medic in the kit menu = problem completely solved but probably not possible

'wounded' state shortened to 10 seconds and increased 'black and white' bleed out time = Happy me. Having to guard 'dead' bodies completely ruins the immersion.

Being shot is a big deal and it should be reflected in the game.

If you only give them ten seconds to revive, then you might as well not bother with reviving at all. There's a lot you've got to do to get someone back up, assuming he didn't conveniently fall into cover, or something. Return fire, pop smoke, wait for smoke to build up, then get out there and actually revive him, which could take anywhere from one to 3-5 tries, depending on how generous the game is feeling.

Given only ten seconds, it wouldn't even be worth trying.

one thing I've been desperate is for the CPR to not work while prone - which would make medics more vulnerable during healing :P

I meant increase the probability and length of the black & white bleedout time to compensate for less 'wounded' state. In that situation he should be crawling to you or holding in cover while he is bleeding out, and you should be throwing smoke for cover as required. This way the epipen would be the last resort if he didn't quite make it in time.

And you know, if he got shot again, there's a good chance he'd die before you got to him. Like in real life.

Oh. Well, I think you'd have to increase it a LOT, since the revive time now is five minutes.

Thx for all your comments so far, interesting to see all your different opinions/ideas on this.

My major thought was that there should be a difference between a medic being shot in your squad and a "standard" soldier. So what's the difference so far?

So here is what happens in case a "normal" soldier is shot:
1. Soldier lies wounded on ground.
2. Squad's disoriented, returns fire...
3. Squad covers area with smoke
4. Medic runs to the location of his wounded comrade
5. Medic resuscitates him.
6. Medic leads bleeding guy to save location
7. medic heals bleeding guy

Now, this is what happens if the medic is shot:
1. Medic lies wounded on ground.
2. Squad's disoriented, returns fire...
3. Squad covers area with smoke
4. One of the squad members runs to the location of the wounded medic
5. He presses the button for picking up the medic kit
6. He (now medic) resuscitates the wounded guy.
7. Medic leads bleeding guy to save location
8. Medic heals bleeding guy
9. They switch kits again

As you can see there is no major difference between both cases. The only difference is that you have to press a button to pick up the medic kit (takes ~0.1 secs) and change kits aftter the whole procedure (takes ~ 2 secs).

So in my opinion there should be made a difference between a medic shot and a "normal" soldier shot. Introducing the waiting time after the medic kit pickup was just one idea to solve this issue.

I will express dislike and disrespect to that opinion, since "picking up someone else's kit" is a viable tactic in a small infantry squad.
Medics they have with them are most often not high-end doctors, just guys who carry the medical gear. And if they are downed, looking in their bags for medical supplies is what you most often would do.
According to me there is no problem.

This problem would be solved if someone who got his head exploded and his brain off his head not able to be revived by a syringe.

i'm just sayin'....

sorry, I fail to see how someone I just unloaded 30 rounds of 7.62 into, or blasted three times in the base of the spine at pointblank with a shotgun is going to be any more revivable than someone who took one to the head. Putting the insta-kill headshots in, as realistic as it is, just makes everything else less realistic.

It's not a bug, but rather a workaround.
BF2 has crappy hit detection. Most hits allow for you to revive the downed soldier, but some don't. Headshots being that type of hits is fine by me.

No, I'm near 100% sure that head shot insta-kills were removed over a year ago and knife insta-kills were removed on the last version. Only way to kill someone outright is with exposives or a .50 cal or larger weapon.
