PR freezes upon startup/Fixed

Post by dustinxmolnar »

I reinstalled PR today and I made sure I installed the 1.41 patch first before the 1.5 patch. This time it actually started up, unlike last time before I uninstalled it and it wouldn't even start up. Although this time, when PR starts up, It freezes or lags at the Black Sands Studios logo. If it lags, the BSS logo doesn't even finish - it loops and then I'm forced to CTRL+Alt+Delete and be overwhelmed with PC lag. I'll wait for the task menu to pop up and close PR and if I even make it that far, I am still forced with PC lag. Every time that happens I have to restart my computer. I tried running PR in different compatibility modes and the problem still persists. I also have it run as administrator and I even unchecked it to see if it would run and I got the same result.

I'm currently using Win 7 Ultimate 32 bit and my specs are:

ATI Radeon Sapphire 5800 series @ 1GB
AMD Phenom II x4 @ 3GHz
4GB RAM

If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it!

Edit(7/4/10):

I got PR to (temporarily) work, except still with Punkbuster errors. I only get the MD5Tool Mismatch: RendDX9x2.dll error and I believe I found a solution to it, one of the other threads. But now that THAT'S fixed, sometimes PR will quit unexpectedly without any errors and one of my major problems are some of the buildings are see thru. Some of the building models don't show up and I always run into fences or boxes or buildings of such. This is my 3rd time uninstalling/reinstalling PR and nothing seems to help!

I have the exact same problem. I have just bought my computer, got the latest drivers to graphic-card and everything. I run Windows 7 64-bit.

And its the same with me; the logo just loops and nothing happens, so I have to restart the computer manually. I have tried to re-install everything, but I have the same problem.

Anybody knows whats up?

Check your video.con file.
Path: C:\Users\your name here\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001

It will look like this:

VideoSettings.setTerrainQuality 3
VideoSettings.setGeometryQuality 3
VideoSettings.setLightingQuality 3
VideoSettings.setDynamicLightingQuality 3
VideoSettings.setDynamicShadowsQuality 3
VideoSettings.setEffectsQuality 3
VideoSettings.setTextureQuality 2
VideoSettings.setTextureFilteringQuality 3
VideoSettings.setResolution 1024x768@60Hz
VideoSettings.setAntialiasing 2Samples
VideoSettings.setViewDistanceScale 1
VideoSettings.setVideoOptionScheme 3

Make sure the Hz ( shown in red) is set to something your monitor can support.
Only the newer LCD can run above 60Hz.

If you still have trouble run battlefield cleaner to flush out your video cache files

Still no joy?

Trash your BF2 cache files
Path:
C:\Users\'your user name here'\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

Throw EVERYTHING inside the folder named cache away.
don't worry the files will be replaced with new ones when the game restarts.

Still CTD?
OK
Some other things you can try before you uninstall/reinstall.
Backup your BF2 folder that's inside your documents folder. Once you have a backup delete the original from your documents folder.
Try starting PR from your PR shortcut
a new default folder is created
link to your online account.
If all goes well (CTD gone) all you have to do to get your custom settings back is copy your 'control' file from your backup to the new profile folder.
path:
C:\Users\your user name here\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0002
note: you may not have a 0002 folder so use 0001

Good luck
