Re: Has Project Reality influenced a decision for you to join the military?
I always wanted to join the military, I have been watching war movies and documentaries. Back when I lived in Poland i visited a few concentration camps including auschwitz and a few other smaller ones. Also I went on a trip to Chernobyl. And now that I live in USA I can do what i always wanted to do, join the army. Also Project Reality pushed me even more into joining the army and thats why i voted "Playing video games was a factor that encouraged me to think about the military as a career choice."

Yeah, I wanted to join the military before I found PR. Unfortunately, my sorry rear still has 3 more years of college, so PR will have to serve for now. In my opinion, one of the best things about the PR community is the large population of real-life military personnel who share their occupational expertise with the community at large.

It did a little bit. If anything, it made me feel a bit more confident in my abilities to, you know, not get myself killed. I was planning on joining anyways, but it made me feel a bit better about it definately.

Re: Has Project Reality influenced a decision for you to join the military?
Unlike some here, at one stage in my life (around 13) joining the military was the last thing on my mind, my father (and all his friends) were Royal Marines and after maturing and growing up I realised that this a great career choice. This decision came through Military Literature, the lifestyle i've seen, the respect and honour of serving in the British Army and the chance to lead men in these kind of environments.
PR gave me a insight into how the military could be exciting and how teamwork and comradeship fits in, but probably did not drastically effect my decision.
Currently going through British Army Officer 6th Form Scholarship.

It's quite interested to see how those who are serving or planning on serving prefer Project Reality over most other games. I've met more people who are serving or going into service in PR than I have in any other game, and I've only met 2-3 who play Xbox Live, and only 1 who plays Modern Warfare.

Not more than a year and a half ago, I was on the verge of making an application to the British Army in the hope of training for a piloting/crew position in the Army Air Corps. Luckily, I realised in time that I couldn't go long without regular female contact, so it was a big no-no for the mongol

You're missing an option or two:
I considered joining/have joined the military but video games played zilch, zip, no part in making the decision I made.

I'm 99.99% set on joining the army, and have played PR since .32, and now play ArmA, ArmA II and OA. These games/simulators have not played any part in my decisions.I considered joining/have joined the military but video games played zilch, zip, no part in making the decision I made.

Re: Has Project Reality influenced a decision for you to join the military?
I'm 18 and hopefully on my way to University this year to do History. Military historian through and through since a young age, always have been interested in the military- partly as my dad served in the Falklands with the RAF Regiment. I plan to finish Uni then become an officer in either the Royal Marines or the Army for a maximum of 10 years. The military will never be a career for me- I plan to become a History teacher. It will simply act as a stepping stone to increase my future employability and offer some excitement while i'm still young! Doing something exciting before becoming a teacher is something all the teachers seem to suggest!
As for the influence of games, very low. Play PR as I enjoy the teamwork challenge in a military environment. Military history studied during A-levels and books about the military have had far more of an influence! On me at least!

The other way around for me; was in NZDF for 2 years. So I was immediately interested when I saw PR video on youtube.

PR has influenced me. I feel that PR taught me a little bit about myself and the military was a very small option. But has increased. I still am debating on pursuing Military work or just being a civilian, but the information that's realistic I've learned from PR taught me well

Re: Has Project Reality influenced a decision for you to join the military?
I have always wanted to join the military, as I grew up with a bunch of war-loving conservatives. The Communist Party discourages joining the US Army, as the war it fights isn't a just cause (which I believe). So I am considering a foreign military, and I'm trying to learn Russian. I don't want to go to a 'Communist Country's' military, as no nation in the world is truly leftist (greed runs this world, don't you know?).
I am 14 years old. Thanks.

Re: Has Project Reality influenced a decision for you to join the military?
I already served 23 months in the German Army, but i can not say that Video Games encouraged me to join. I had the plan to make career as an officer and serve 12 years, but several experiences (idiotic, incompetent officers above me, no expedient stuff to do) let me reject this. Military video games are just one more brick in wall of interest in military equipment/tactics/history.

Re: Has Project Reality influenced a decision for you to join the military?
My dad is in the Royal Dutch Army Reserves, and Since a very young age I have been interested in WWII, this evolved in to the indochina conflict and all the way up to modern age, I basically followed military history and made several essay's about several conflicts. I play games for fun and they are twice as interesting when it involves history or accuracy.
But thanks to the PR Forums I do know a lot more about weaponry and Military Vehicles, I know more about this subject than my Dad currently does.
I have not let games influence my decision, but I am as of now still unsure what to do with my future as there are so many choices, a military career is one of them that makes a good chance tho.
Currently 16 yo.

Re: Has Project Reality influenced a decision for you to join the military?
i wish everyone would have a system like we have in Finland. We are forced to do service for 6/9 or 12 months. And i consider that as a test.
I did my 12 months as military police and had marksman and dog handeler. training. 12 months was enough for me tho, i saw what it was and got my experiences from that without needing to dedicate my life for it. I wanted a job career which is going good now and im happy.
Tho i was thinking to join police academy later to get some use of those military police knowledges, but for some reason i just wanted to get good money from business jobs
But it really changes people, u learn teamwork, u learn respect and the biggest thing is u learn how to lead. All these things are needed to be succes in real life.
