About the Commander!

Post by Jack Zaitsev »

Guys i know this will look like a suggestion but is just a question about an idea i've been having!

Look i love commanding and i think is a must if you want to play the game as it mean to be played!

but i think the commander is underused and i know the devs don't want to force people to play commander!

so my idea is (i've searched in the suggestions foruns and couldn't find anything related) to make commander able to create communications (radio) links between the squads to make communication easily and i'know we have Teamspeak and other programs to do the job but i think everything must be incorporated to the game itself!
of course this must be implemented in a manner that cannot be exploited and a lot of thinking must be put on the idead before i can make a real suggestion so will this be possible or is (i hate this word) Hardcoded?

Insigth on the idea:
Squad 2: Commander this is squad 2, How Copy?
Commander: Solid copy Squad 2, Send!
Squad 2: We are under fire from enemy armor at Bravo 5 Kilo Papa 6 requesting Close Air Suport, Over!
Commander: Roger that squad 2 Close air suport at B6Kp2, Squad 5 VADER is on the way Dust of in 1 minute, i'am connecting you guys so you can cordinate the atack, Commander Out!
Squad 5: Squad 2 this is squad 5 how copy?
Squad 2: Copy all squad 5, your target is in BRAVO 6 KILO PAPA 2, Spot on (Lased) Cleared hot!
Squad 5: Roger that squad 2, Target BRAVO 6 KILO PAPA 2! Engaging...

I think the connection shoud last only for a couple of minutes so it cant be exploited but this must be discused...

So guys this is it lets work on the idea so we can make a complete suggestion to the devs!

you can always force people to get on mumble and then let the SL join the SL channel works the same you say now

I believe this is hardcoded, yes. Go to the servers with Mumble users instead!

Sounds like your trying to imitate a film or something.

Wouldn't it just be easier to listen to squad 2's report of incoming fire through their SL using V and then you passing on this information to the CAS squad by talking to them using B.

If your trying to suggest that squads can talk to each other in a similar way in which the commander can talk to all squads. I think that's hardcoded into the game and also doesn't that then defeat the point of having a commander to coordinate the attacks and manage the team?

He i know but you khow hard is to find everybody on mumble? man there is alot of people that dont use mumble and cordination between squads is a must! so i think if is possible give this power to the commander!

Read carefully in my post and you will see that what i'am saying is that the commander coud have this power to help the team cordinate without the commander you will have to do this in the global or pray to god to the squad ? be in mumble or teamspeak and i'am talking about people that not only play in events and stuff like that becouse i play in public servers and i think cordinating with this guys must be possible!

so this will raise the need for a commander but of couse my idea need more planing and thats why i've posted it!

As has been said, this is hardcoded, or something like it would already be in the game.

A rule of thumb: Everything related to VOIP is hardcoded.
Play on a server where at least all the SLs are in the correct SL channel and everything will be fine.

Hardcoded. The closest you can get to this without Mumble is to have the squad leaders relay messages through the commander.

I know it sucks, but it seems typing is the only clear way to communicate sq-sq w.o using Mumble/TS/Vent. Sometimes it gets hard when all chat is spammy, but if you type out grid co-ords most people will pay attention to what is said.

The next best thing is using the Ctrl and Shift buttons to select squads to talk. Use Ctrl to highlight the squads you click so you can only communicate to them and not the other squads. Shift just highlights down to wherever you click.

For example using the OPs scenario if you hold down Ctrl and select squads 2 and 5 you can communicate to them two at the same time instead of relaying the same message twice. Of course the individual squads cant communicate internally without an outside voice program but its a great half step measure to what your suggesting.
