PR Magazine maybe a go....?
Hello everyone, as some of you may recall we had an earlier discussion on a Project Reality Magazine idea. Some of us wanted it some of us didn't but I don't remember it going through the the extent of us actually having one.
So I've came with a proposal. As of now, I've started working and learning Adobe's inDesign which is a publishing tool and organization tool for online/print works of literature, be it books, magazines etc.
I would gladly start work on this by myself (with of course permission from the PR staff) but unfortunately one man cannot do a very good job of it.
So my proposal... If anyone would be interested in joining the PR Magazine team, which won't just deal with Project Reality, then please post a response to this stating so. Hopefully we can get it running with enough people who voluntarily offer their time to this and the "okay" to use the PR logo and other copyrighted material without hassle.
Before anything happens though, we need the communities response to this idea and if it will fly or crash. Hopefully it will fly.
For people wondering, it will be an online magazine with hopefully it's own domain. Again, I can't do this with out permission and backing of some individuals.
Thanks.

Magazine sounds like a great idea. It could give the newbies some tips that they won't find in the manual, and the veterans something to read.

I know how to use inDesign so maybe I could help but tbh I don't see much point in this, What exactly would a magazine do that this website can't?

Of course you can start a digital magazine, it's what goes in that may require permission, depends what it is.
Think about what exactly you want to put in and when thinking of topics, ask yourself: can I make let's say 10 magazines? (no, not at once, but do you see yourself making multiple magazines)
Interviews are one thing, sure. Sometimes you may get an exclusive, but we also have the PR Highlights section where the team posts updates and such, so.... think carefully about what stuff you want to put in there, without it being "old news".

I'm willing to help with this. I can write and do graphic art and such.
The only real way I could see it working is if it was released twice per month and the content in the PR Highlights/etc was put into it.

Why though?whatshisname55 wrote:what if the mag team got the update info before its posted on the forum?
I am also a bit concerned about the content. Of course you could just put the old highlights in there, but... The are posted in the highlights section, every month or so there's a big update on the PR front page, AND they appear in-game.

I suggest you pick up where L4gi and I left off: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f10-pr ... ssion.html
The people listed in the original post are those interested, plus there were quite a few more.
I can forward you the emails but its not as simple as just having one head, you need someone similar to Masaq in the field of human resources: sorting people out on the team and keeping track of who is doing what tasking. You're also going to need a monthly timeplan and tasking list.
Read the thread and if you have any more questions about it PM me. Trust me, this task is alot bigger than it looks, don't make any promises before you come out with a prototype product.

The general consensus that L4gi, PlasmaSoldier and I came up with was to have features combined with articles pertaining to that particular month.
At least every month there is an update, be it the L85 RIS or the commander stations, so the plan was to have a more in-depth look - including interviews with the developer of it - at the asset to gain a more broader understanding.
We also had plans to have a dedicated writing team, dividing staff up into three categories: management, graphics and writing.

To have a community-accessible look at PR, with tactics discussions and problem solutions for servers, maybe a tech section too.

you might want a 4th category: editing, or does that fall under writing?

Which is pretty unorganized, has people posting without decent grammar or punctuation, tactics which are completely invalid, etc.Spaz wrote:But you can do all that right here on the forum.![]()
It was just an idea, would have continued it if we didn't realize we'd bitten off more than we could chew.

Yeah, that's the difficult thing with a digital magazine.. most if not all can be done on the forums already, though the setup is of course entirely different.Spaz wrote:But you can do all that right here on the forum.![]()

Re: PR Magazine maybe a go....?
You could write about the PR Tournament when it starts again
Statistics about PR players, Servers, Tactics.
Write about PR Events.
Interviews like !WHO do it.
Questions people might have?
Find out if any hot girls play PR and PM their phone number.
Just some ideas.

Re: PR Magazine maybe a go....?
The only thing that could be done is to put the articles in the tactics section together, in order to minimise clutter, and simply having a link that someone can go to for them, a seperate tactics discussion site as it were.[R-DEV]AfterDune wrote:Yeah, that's the difficult thing with a digital magazine.. most if not all can be done on the forums already, though the setup is of course entirely different.
I just don't see the need for a magazine, or is that the point? It isn't out of necessity, it's just something fun to do over the summer?

Re: PR Magazine maybe a go....?
Scrap the PR magazine, make it the PR community magazine, wich means you can also acces offtopic stuff, wich will give you a broader amount of topics so you can actaully keep it running like: other games and mods that have the communitys interest (armaII/Ace for example),black sand studios new,and maybe some political discussions/new military hardware.
it will need someone to compose strips about PR like papers/magazines usually have.
depending if we can get this started,im willing to do some articles in the mag, have experience with other gamesites.
PM if intrested
