Totally disagree. I use binos all the time, extremely valuable, especially on larger maps. Its not worth removing the binos for a few grenades, ammo or incinedaries.

If we are to debate how valuable the different items in the inventory are, in my opinion the knife will loose and should be sacrified. ;)

Or another suggestion like the one rudd also posted is that on certain maps certain kits don't include binoculars, rather using kits loadouts which are more prevalent to the terrain type of battle which will occur.

For example, on an insurgency map like West Fallujah or a para drop map, certain infantry kits other than the officer or compatible component might not carry binocs in favor of an additional grenade or 2, patches or smoke, or door breaching equipment.

It could even be neat on a map like Kashan having the option to para drop into an area (Both MEC/USMC/USARMY), we have yet to see the MEC side have the ability to para drop in, even the Russian side for that matter...

Anyways thanks so far for your replies and opinions.

Honestly, I'd only allow this if we were able to select what we brought in our kit.

Rangefinders would be cool.

they're already on the GTLD, which comes with sniper and officer kits, plus with markers you don't need a range finder.... also how many soldiers randomly carry rnage finders around.

Without binocs every unscoped class would be totally useless outside of dense urban areas.

I don't see any point to remove the binoculars, other than to annoy the hell out of people.

This is my issue. I'm not one of the low graphics camp (or even low resolution)... but I know others who are and they need binocs to see detail.

Please explain. Have you ever used the ACOG scope?

I didn't realize the binocs for kits other than SLs or Snipers is such a crutch......I guess the Devs shouldn't remove it bc heaven forbid you can't be a medic and stand up on a hill in the open and use your binoculars to see who is shooting you across the ridge.

Eh, quite frankly, the policy of "It's not broken, let's not fix it" applies here. Binoculars are a useful and sometimes downright necessary tool for many situations. Please don't go removing them unless it is necessary (say, for paratroopers).

Well if i am a medic i don't want to be a walking health box. I want to be able to contribute to my team when there is no one that needs reviving/patching up. When i Squad lead i regularly leave the SAW gunner at a covering position with the medic so they can help Spot enemies. The binocs are a much more powerful zoom than ingame Scopes, very useful tool that every kit benefits from them.

In the BF2 engine people are indistinguishable from rocks, bushes etc once they get beyond a certain distance, everything is just a brown blip (to me at least). If i'm getting shot at I should at least be able to see which brown blip is fring at me so I know where to take cover rather than just guessing.

Binocs have a higher power and wider field of view than a scope. I use them even when I have a scope when scoping for enemy movement or something on the fuzzy edge of visible.

Also, as SL, knowing that my squadies are able to see targets for themselves leaves a little more hair on my head. Having to arrange logistics, comm with CO, mark targets, create strategies, accompany the team's maneuvers, know where the enemy is, designate functions and enforce them, know where everyone in the squad is, AND be called over for every faint white line out in the distance is (insert complement) ;)

I feel if we wanted to move to realism the binos should be removed
But from a gameplay standpoint, since the engine does limit us severely its necessary to see certain distances and objecs and that normally would be distinquishable to the human eye in real life, plus in real combat people aren't pulling out their binocs when under machinegun fire as they hit the dirt the way we do in BF2, but its BF2 afterall, we need some game concessions
PS to the guy who said why would soldiers randomly bring range finders with them
When the thing is smaller than a bino, I'd make room for it if I had the choice

It fits in my hand afterall

In computer games, your vision in general is more limited, unlike real life its harder to see small targets that are just some poor pixels
So binoculars are needed, especially in BF2

if you are going to replace something, i suggest frag grenades for open maps since except close quarter battle they don't have much use
Or replace binocs with vector rangefinder
