I would love to join the Marines as an officer, however.

I have borderline personality disorder :(

My main reason for wanting to the join the military is frm hearin my dad say how much it changed his life when he went in. when i final went to enlist i had plenty of reasons on my own. i wanted to better myself as person. iwanted to learn some skills i would not be able to learn otherwise. the money i would get to go to college would help me get a better education to only further myself.

Then choose one of the last two options. The last two options sort of skirt the issue but you can still answer one of those (either youve always wanted to or never wanted to) with the assumption/extension of logic/implied result that you werent influenced by PR or other games

Keen interest in weapons and how they actually work (basicly how to swing them also), from swords to firearms of almost all ages, combined with interest in tactics, mainly small squad tactics. Absolutely no desire to join the amry.

NOT CONSTRUCTIVE? He's answering the question with something that not unlike my answer, just simplified.

Has Project Reality influenced a decision for you to join the military?

NO, and if it did, Counter Strike could have done the same thing.

Letting any military game convince someone to join any military is ridiculous and unethical IMO. This game really does harden someone to harsh realities (like the devastation a Cobra or JDAM can do) but its a game and that is what makes it dangerous. I know this game is striving for realism, but at the same time it is mocking the people who fight and DIE everyday and do these things, and if someone does make a decision to join based on this GAME is not who'd I want to fight for my freedom. (for those who said yes, live with it)

Life is not a game, Project Reality is.

Voted never wanted to join in the military.

but option b also comes in to play a tiny bit. If this game is realistic (alltough i somehow doubt very much that it comes close to the real thing) i don't wanna end up in the military due to the countless times i died an very unexpected and horribly painfull death in this game

I'd never really thought about joining the military. Then I went to my mate's house and, while piss drunk, played PR. The next few hours are hazy, but I woke up the morning after with papers to ship out to basic training.

But what everyone else said about one coming before the other.

even tho numerous (like, 5+?) DEVs have fought for their respective countries? doubt they would work on the mod if it did.

Cool read, reminds me of a bit of what I covered in my senior thesis (mainly focused on MGS series, but also on national propaganda in games)

I had a quick question though, because I too covered Americas Army, but from what I played and came to understand is that you never play as the insurgent forces. The "enemy" team always looks like the baddies while "your" team is always the US Army character model. Thats still true today, right? For me, that was a big talking point, and also a slight "concern/thing to watch" as it makes it pretty obvious this game is made by the US military who want to always look like the "good guys." I contrasted this with Project Reality, that, since it isnt tied to a governmental body or even a producer, we can include pretty much whatever we dang well please(IEDs, playing as INS, booby traps, etc)

Just read in your paper that you play as the bad guys on some training missions or something, I must have just missed those training missions in AA.

Cool read though, I should really upload my thesis somewhere one of theses days as its about MGS, PR, AA, and mostly Japan... :)

I served two tours in Iraq. Cannot get enough of military and combat. IRL or video games or simulators. The warlike nature the hunter the savage the fight instinct is so strong inside me. Every since I was a child it was there. I wish it were not so I wish I were peaceful and liked to play video games like cooking tales or Happy bubbly peace island. It is so so hard to fight against instinct.
