Patches

Post by Iceberg »

Im not sure if this is possible, but if it is it would be good.
Instead of the patches instantly healing someone, why not make it similiar to the medic bag in vbf2. iirc the medic bag had a sort of ammo bar, and when that was empty could not heal anyone until it recharged.
So my suggestion is to change the patches so to heal yourself with them you have to hold them. While holding them they would slowly run out of 'ammo'. Once it was empty it would be removed from your inventory until you were resupplied.
This would stop the patches from being such easy healing and would symbolise the soldier actually applying it.

I was just about to suggest something like this. Make the patch heal over time, like say 10-20 seconds to fully use it. I see alot of people (myself included) taking officer kits, dropping 3 patches and being fit for fight in about 5 seconds. Seems a bit unrealistic to me.

Hmmm, the patches work fine, the medic is immobilised when he is doing his work, i see what you are saying, but going backwards in this i think would be a bad move. when you use your medipack you are usually not completely healed, you will inevitability need a medic to stop you dying.

i think what is needed more than changing how the packs work, is a higher incentive for medics to actually heal people instead of just running past a dying solider screaming for help.

Edit.
a longer heal time would be good though

Good Idea. As long as you can still toss them to friends (without being able to toss them to yourself). It would actually encourage more teamwork as it'd be faster to heal each other by tossing patches than healing yourself.

What's needed to get medics to heal people is a way to see whether the guy you are about to use a precious epipen on has given up already.

This isn't correct. As the OP said, officer kits are often just picked up for their patches, and 3 patches will save you unless you are black/white.

A deployment time for the patches is a good idea, especially if you're healing someone else.

I don't know. Patches are there to fix some bleeding not completely heal someone. I've been shot a good couple times and been brought down to black and white immediately. If it weren't for the patches I'd have been critically wounded. Also if patches heal slowly instead of instantly then you'd get an issue with other people 'stealing' a part of your patch. Of 25 HP-- 13 heals the guy next to you and you get 12.

I think the medic bag should be slower at healing too.

Also the patch might be able to have two fire modes:

1) Dropping, normal patch, maybe reduce effectiveness
2) Applying, like medic bag, heals more than a dropped patch but is used up after one use.

Dont fix it if its not broken. I rarely ever use patches, the medic bag is usually number 1 on the list. I think I've seen patches used maybe 8 times in the last month.

I think thats a problem. Patches should be whats used in combat/hairy situations. Medic bag is used in calm or secure locations.

Too often I find that people are shot, down to 50% health and bloody crying for a medic.

No you won't bleed out in a minute or two, get back to shooting, stop looking at me they are walking up on us! Stop, fine, I'll throw a patch down. *Rattatatatatata* (Bleh we are both dead.)

Interesting note: When rearming off a crate Medics rearm 5 and Squad Leaders rearm 3 patches for every other kits 1 patch.

and what if there is no officer kit to pick up, etc, i know what you are saying but that is only one instance, and i did say that lengthening the healing time of patches is a good idea though.

very true, but when calling for a medic, he can see by the health bar above the player if he can still be revived. ( maybe that meter staying with the player until he is dead would be an idea)
but getting them to heal you is a different matter,

This should be done, because wasting a whole field dressing if you have only -10% health is just not good. It has to be possible to use it how much you want.

But if you are bleeding out and the patch doesn't heal you in time it will just take longer for you too die

The vbf2 medicbag idea is great! 20 seconds = 20 hp = 1 hp/sec. and then it runs out. You can refill it with ammo/crates.

The most absurd thing is the exploit of medics dropping them on bodies and then reviving them wich gives the wounded guy insta30 hp or something, and he can run around freely.

Even medic heals too fast. Triple time would be fine and it is not realistic to heal shooting men.
