Game crashes while loading/fixed

So I got BF2 a long while ago but found this mod just recently so went through the trouble of reinstalling this game. Only problem is when I try and start the game it shows the first splash window, then goes black for a few seconds, flickers back and forth between the desktop and the black screen then just closes with no error message. I tried windowing it and I still get no error message and I have the shortcut set to Run as Administrator and also I've tried setting it to Run in Compatibility Mode for Windows XP SP 2 and 3. I've already searched through the forums for any possibility that this might have been answered and I have tried probably 95% of them and will most likely try the last 5% later today when I'm more awake.

It might also be an issue, but I had downloaded Battlefield 2 due to the fact that I lost my Disc 4 of BF2 a long time ago. I had legal bought the game previously so I don't think that it is a crime to download this game if I already own it. I also use a no-cd crack with the game because I very much dislike keeping my CD in the CD Drive (I've had my original copy of Starcraft that I purchased back in 1999 explode into pieces in my drive and that was not fun cleaning up...) so I'm not sure if that might cause a problem.

Later today I am going to follow the directions given for uninstalling everything and reinstalling it to see if that helps. If anyone can help at all I would appreciate it. Also a side note is that I have tried the original Battlefield 2 and it works like a charm with not a single problem. I run Windows 7 64-bit.

make sure you've installed bf2 and pr correctly
patch 1.41 -> 1.5 -> PR part1 -> part 2

iirc with the new bf2 1.5 patch you don't need a cd

also you could check for some driver updates. i always tell people to do that

The thing is I've tried that. Before I downloaded PR I tried updating BF2 with a v1.50 patch, but it said that I had a newer version (which I know is not possible so I'm guess it meant that I had v1.50). I'm downloading the v1.41 patch and giving it a try now to see if that works.

Any Update on this? I am having the same issue. I loaded bf2, rebooted, tried to load the patch, it said I had the most current version (Possible patcher issue IMHO). Then install PR, rebooted and now when I launch the game from the shortcut it goes straight to the windows error saying it is searching for a fix because pr.exe stopped.

I actually fixed it. It was that my BF2 actually wasn't updated. You can't install straight from 1.0 to 1.5, you need to install from 1.0 to 1.41 to 1.5, then you install PR. It should work afterwards.

The install of PR for some reason also prevented vanilla BF2 from launching so I nuked both and will reinstall when I am local to the box tonight.

same thing happens to me but its differetn i got bf2 and all patches i got this mod, rocks! but what happens it lets me play a match or 2 and then it goes black shows a bit of the desktop then a little bit after it justs goes to the destop! what are the requirments to have this game??? did i miss anything plzz help!

huh.. Your game should work perfectly fine now. The requirements are in the forums, you can find them somewhere.. haha Your game has been installed perfectly fine! I'm sure it's a requirement issue

I'm back to the same issue.

Steps
1. Uninstall PR
2. Nuke directories
3. Reboot
4. Uninstall BF2
5. Nuke directories
6. Reboot
7. Install BF2
8. Verify it plays and I can play in servers (yup and yup)
9. Install 1.41 patch
10. Reboot
11. Play again (Still works)
12. Install 1.5 patch
13. Reboot
14. Play again (Yup, still works fine and I can find and play in servers)
15. Install PR 1
16. Reboot
17. Install PR2
18. Reboot
19. Try to launch PR and it gives an instant PR.EXE HAS STOPPED WORKING (Looking for an error)
20. Try to launch vBF2 (Fails, no error will just not launch)

try not rebooting between the two parts of PR installation. And the original BF2 doesn't work after your install PR?

Just tried again and vBF2 is working fine. the issue is only with PR at this point.

huh. I remember this happening to me too, but that was before I added the 1.5 patch to BF2... Are you sure you have the 0.917 patch?

Have you tried to get the version # while running in 'windowed' mode
Some have posted Updating with the
1.41/1.5 update
Sometimes does not complete, but looks like it does.
To find your version of BF2
run PR in 'windowed' mode
Look at the upper left corner
you should see
v.1.5.3153-802.0

If you can't run PR to check, then run BF2 in 'windowed' mode.
If you don't have the correct version, re-download the patches with a Torrent and try again.
