Re: How Did You First Learn About Project Reality?
I read about PR back in 2005/2006 on the danish boom-town web-page, a well-known domestic gamer-site, now taken down.
I read about it, because I searched for a modification that would be more realistic than the vanilla version, where I played as almost always frustrated CO player for almost a year.
The first review I read of the PR, made me interested.
However, the image used to present an example from PR was taken from Karkand, on the square, where an infantry-player was in a jump while shooting. So, that was it, I though "No team-play here, only opportunistic ego-game-play". Thus for that reason I decided not to download PR.
Instead I downloaded some other BF2 mods and then got into a BF2 clan, where I some months later heard about PR again, from players in the clan.
From what they said, I decided to download.

Define irony. A bunch of guys playing PR year after year. A game teaching initiative as the prime mover.
However, in regard to EA, these guys never took the initiative.

I played over at =HOG= Slaughter House (Karkand FTW) and some of my friends there were moving to PR so I just followed/I couldn't take the nade or clay spamming.

Guru3D.com, where I'm a member.
2 years ago someone started a thread on a great BF2 mod they had found....PR 0.7 at the time.
After 5 years of 1942/BF2 I was sick of it (mainly due to 'nade spamming & Hax etc), so I d/l the mod and was hooked straight away.
3mths later I became affiliated with the Big D server community and never looked back...
Thx devs

Re: How Did You First Learn About Project Reality?
Not many posts in these last 5 years =) Tho same with me. I also used to play BF1942 and desert combat mod, and before BF2 release if i remember correctly i found some banner or topic about PR on another website, clicked it and checked PRs website. There was some info about the mod which i found very interesting, and tester applications. I applied but werent accepted, tho i kept following the mod and when the 0.2 was released few months later, i downloaded it and tested it. There wasnt many players online, not even hopes of full server ever. But the little tiny changes PR had made to the BF2, made it 100 times better than BF2 already, and when 0.25 came with AASv1 the game was perfect and i was hooked =)Wolfguard wrote:I was playing Battlefield 1942: Desert Combat back in 2003/2004, when I heard Battlefield 2 was under development. I wondered if Desert Combat would be converted over to the Refractor 2 engine, and started researching it. Somehow and at some point back in 2004, I stumbled across Project Reality. I've been visiting the website almost every single day ever since![]()

Re: How Did You First Learn About Project Reality?
I saw a video that was sent by a friend, after that I started to watch some more videos about PR. When I finnaly decided to start playing PR with a friend, 0.86 Was released, my friend who was already kind of integrated learnt me the basic of PR. I joined the forums after one week of training, and I bought a mic.
When 0.87 was released I became more an average soldier, I focussed on Infantry roles on the battlefield, and flying the attack Huey. I also started to lead more squads, I became experienced (?) with squadleading, but it wasn't my thing. When we came closer to 0.9 I started to train as a sapper, a role that I play most of the time now.
When 0.9 was released, I made the decision to practice with armored vehicles as a gunner. When more 1337 N1nj4$ guys joined PR, I stopped with squadleading, and started to go more solo, mostly as Insurgent sapper. I still played in squads, but most of the time it was a 4-man squad supporting other squads.
That was my story. My favourite roles;
1.Insurgent/Taliban Ambusher.
2.Recon (SL Kit, with a small crew).
3.Supporting other squads.
4.APC/Tank/Choppa Gunna.
5.The Ordinary Rifleman.

Re: How Did You First Learn About Project Reality?
The simple answer is via vBF, though the detailed answer is a little longer.
I tried PR many moons ago, but found it very hard to get into (steep learning curve and all that). Quite a while later I ended up joining *NwA* after spending time on their vBF server. As a number of our membership have been into PR since the early days, one thing led to another, and here I am.

Re: How Did You First Learn About Project Reality?
I was watching a rage video and there were a few clips of PR, not knowing what it was (but realizing it was related to bf2 from the gameplay/guns) I asked around and ended up on this site where I immediatly installed it and have been an avid player since v0.7.

https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f380-project-reality-news/37985-soldier-magazine-writes-project-reality.html Remember this old article? I was cruising for some mods around MODdb and looking specifically for one for BF2. This writeup about PR crossed my eye so I downloaded it.
I think that was right about PR .7

Re: How Did You First Learn About Project Reality?
My mate at school told me about it, after of course I told him how interested I am with the military. I bought Bf2 for PR. Never played it before either... After Playing PR and PR only I decided to check out what vinalla was like... Well... first three minutes of that game made me so disgusted listening to 12 year olds screaming Im a newb and a terrible player, well that put me off of Vinalla for my entire life.
