Logging in takes ages/Fixed
Hi everyone
Basically, it takes 2 or 3 minutes for me to log in to PR. The game functions normally, but the 'establishing connection' screen stays up for the aforementioned period of time.
When I first installed the game, it took about 5-10 seconds, and my friend who has PR can log in that time.
On a possibly related note, loading maps also takes wayyy longer than it should. Most maps take about 3 minutes to load. Again, my friend's PR installation takes about 20 seconds to load even huge maps like Qinling.
What could be causing this?
EDIT: It's not that my PC is slow, I get 40-50 fps on Fallujah and 80-100 on Kashan. Maybe just the hard drive is slow?

Go to My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\001*\General.con
*(depends on how many you have)
and delete every line with GeneralSettings.addServerHistory (the server history).

Wow, cheers man - my login times are back to normal!
Quick reply, too.
I'm guessing this is because when you log in it checks your server history or something, which takes time?

Yeah, it also checks your favorite servers, but you usually wanna keep those.

Right, any ideas about the long load times? I swear they used to be faster too. I've already defragmented my hard drive, but that made no difference.

If you make that file (general.con) read-only, you will never suffer from the long wait until finally logged in - though it won't save your favorites either.

I wish someone had told me about this BF2 bug a long time ago.. it took me forever to figure it out on my own, and i had been in the config files editing them many times. Was only by accident that i created a different profile and it logged in instantly. I would have never guessed it was checking my favorites/history *BEFORE* logging me in.. i cant possibly imagine why it does that.
You have no idea how frustrating it was to try to troubleshoot a BF2 problem when every time you open the game you have to wait 45-90 seconds to login, and when you need to open the game 20 times or more, not to mention actually load maps in between.
StuTika: Long load times in PR, or BF2? PR maps do seem to take quite awhile to load. I would assume its because they are bigger, have more textures, and more objects as well. Load times appeared to increase slightly with the 1.50 patch in standard BF2 i believe, but could be any number of reasons, defragmenting could have put the BF2 files on the slower part of your drive, same with reinstalling if your drive is getting full. The difference can be as much as 30 megs per second on some newer drives from the slow part to the fast part of the drive. Every time you clear your cache folder or change video settings it also has to rebuild the shader settings for each map i believe, could that be part of your increased load times? I believe the textures setting has an impact on load times too.
20 seconds to load? I dont even load a standard 16 player BF2 map that quickly. I have BF2 installed on a 250 gig drive from quite a few years ago though. PR maps with bots tend to take 60-90 seconds for me on average.
