Strange lagging every few seconds?

Post by [FH]Ravvie »

Hey fellas, been a while hope everyone's doing ok,

Just a quick question that ive been looking around the PR forums for and i cant really see anything that matches up to my problem, Its only just started happening recently which i cant work out what it is due to i haven't changed or done anything with my pc, nor have i installed anything that would be running differently in the back ground?

Now the problem being is its kinda like a heartbeat lag literally for half a second then 5 - 10 seconds later again, for example ill turn my gun rapidly and it would short out then end up completely the other side of the screen but with no smooth movement, its like a FPS lag i suppose? (the only way to explain it)

EDIT: i must admit come to think of it i have updated my graphics driver recently but i cant see that being a problem surely?

My PC is a high spec one so it shouldn't be that either?

Vista 64bit
Phenom II X4 Black Edition
Reaper Ram 4 GIG
HD4890 G.Fix

I got Broadband thats 20 meg and like i said ive never had this problem before and im getting it on a server nWa when i got a 25 ping?

Any more info needed let me know ill see what i can give, Thanks in advance fellas

'Andy[EEF wrote:;1401558']I had this problem too when using vista wireless- it's caused by the wireless connection every 60 seconds temporarily disconnecting from the current network and then searching for another network. Vista seems to do this even if you disable it in network settings. To solve it Google "vista anti lag" and download that. Run the program, and this problem should be resolved once you turn it on. You'll have to run it every time you start windows however- but you can choose to "start on windows", so it's not much inconvenience.
Defrag HD
Check bios for PCIe card has largest data block it can get.
Bump page file up. min & max same.
Run battlefield cleaner to flush out your video cache files

Still no joy?
Trash your BF2 cache files
Path:
C:\Users\'your user name here'\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

Throw EVERYTHING inside the folder named cache away.
don't worry the files will be replaced with new ones when the game restarts.
'[R-COM wrote:thepalerider;1242888']Have him set the pb_sleep500 trick/workaround :

Have him type this line into his BF2 console (default ~) when he joins a server:
pb_sleep 500
More information about pb_sleep command found here: Punkbuster BF2 Information

This can give Punkbuster B the time in needs to restart (hopefully)
In game textures set to 'HIGH'
Set the textures to medium.
I'm not sure why this makes a difference with high-end cards that can run games like Crysis on high quality settings with no problem at the same res,
but for some reason it can matter in Project Reality.

reinstall video drivers

Set desktop the same res as the game.
Make sure you have @ least 4 gig free on drive PR/BF2 is installed on.
Use game booster or AMD fusion

Don't game wireless if you can help it.
If you have more than one cpu or 'core' you can set the 'affinity'(force the game to run on one cpu or core only)

Hope it helps

In your bios setup you should be able to go into the PCIe setup and choose a size data block the GPU gets.
