Just forget everything you learned in BF2. Don't do things that you did jn BF2. Read the manual first.
P.S. prepare mic.

Generally if you want pointers you can always ask your squad leader for tips, overall everyone is usually helpful and willing to sacrifice a few moments to answer your questions. If you want to get into using assets (jets/choppers/tanks) you will need to practice with them before jumping into a populated server and taking off. This is a very team oriented game and if you jump into a chopper and crash into the end of the runway on a full server people will get very angry. Also important to note is that one-manning most vehicles in not a real option(fly boys excluded ofc), in this game you need a crew to operate most heavy hitting assets. So the best bet is to get some practice on a co-op server, and then try to get accustomed to flying/driving around on a local server. Most assets are simplified in co-op so bots can use them, which leads to people thinking the real asset is easier to fly/use then it actually is.

If you stay on task, and keep your wits about you it wouldn't be such a stretch to say you could jump into an infantry squad on a populated server the first time you play. You just need to follow the squad leader/commanders game plan and generally you will pick up the info/tips you need along the way. If you play this game like vBF2 you will find it lacking and rather slow, but if you enjoy team work and tactics you will find this game to be very rewarding.

My tips for a new guy: Mics make the game a blast, and Mumble brings a lot of hilarity. Without the two you are only experience the game and not the community, and frankly without the humor and insight of fellow pr players the game is only half as fun.
