Ammo in Machine guns...

Post by superhunty »

Hi guys.

Does anyone actually know how much ammo there is per magazine for the all the machine guns in game.

With rifles I have a very good idea about when ammo is running low but with machine guns (mounted or LMG) I havn't got a clue and they always seem to run out when im not expecting it!

A list would be fantastic!

Also anybody got any tips for an easy way to judge how much ammo per magazine you have left?

Uhm, that should be 200 ammo box for SAWs, 50 for Russian, 200 for the militia and Taliban one (provided you have just 3 magazines ), 75 drum in Chineese one and 100 (i think) in MEC's and IDF's LMGs.
As for mounted .50 calls it should be 100 per box

Aren't they all using the exact same PKM?

I think they're not using the same ammo clips for it. Can't tell for sure though.

See for such a simple question there is actually quite a lot of confusion! :D

They are and it definitely isn't 50 rounds :|
I'd say 100 rounds.

And the Negev is surely 200 rounds like the SAW isn't it?

Something about the MG3 seems awfully low, that thing runs out of ammo incredibly fast.

Legend. But Yeah MG3 seems to run out with about 3 bursts but I dont know whether thats just because of a lack of ammo or incredible rate of fire!

Yeah I edited my post. Leopard 2A6 carries 100 rounds I believe, and the handheld version carries 50 rounds.

It's because of the ROF. MG3 is about 1,100 rounds per minute while the M249 has about 800 in PR if I recall correctly. The MG3 drum has half of the ammo (or less) the SAW has, but you get 6 drums for it. Considering it's a 7.62 aswell, makes it pretty sweet.

I actually prefer smaller magazines/drums for LMGs. Reloading a MG3 you pick will not cost you as much when compared to a SAW.

knowing how much ammo you have in a mag is not much help, not when your firing in large volumes.

find out how many seconds of automatic fire you have, once you figger that out you can just count the seconds, that will give you a better idea.

Not a bad idea but surely its going to be different for every weapon with varying ROF and ammo amounts?

THe handheld MG3 is uses a 75 round belt ingame. That's enough for 5 seconds of cyclic fire (gun fires at 900 rounds per minute).

In 1968, Rheinmetall introduced the MG-3; this version externally looks like an MG-1A3. The rate of fire of the MG-1 and MG-2 was considered way too high (they still had almost the original rate of fire of the MG-42, about 1100 rpm), so the weight of the bolt of the MG-3 was almost doubled, reducing the standard rate of fire to 900 rpm. The MG-3, like many GPMGs of the period, has a variable gas regulator, primarily for use when compensating for fouling, but it also allows the rate of fire to be adjusted from 700-1300 rpm

However mounted versions in future PR versions will have their cyclic rate upped to 1200rpm and box capacity of 250 rounds, symbolising the use of a lighter bolt with more spare ammunition.

I thought 900rpm was the maximum ROF for weapons in BF2.
Or is it 600rpm with "batch" of 2 rounds ?
Many thanks to everyone involved in the making of the best videogaming experience ever !
