Recently updated my BIOS as this machine's really been playing up, on first boot it flashed up that my SATA HDD is working on legacy IDE. I do get the option to change to ACPI however windows will not fire up and at a guess I need SATA drivers, however I cannot find them any where.
I have tried both Gigabyte and Seagate.
Any one got any ideas?

Re: SATA HDD Drivers
Sounds like a BIOS setting not driver issue... you don't normally need drivers for HDD in Windows.
Have a good look through your BIOS settings... make sure your settings show the HDD on SATA.

Re: SATA HDD Drivers
Oh you mean you've tried to change IDE mode to AHCI in the BIOS on a HDD that already has your main OS (win7) installed? You're going to need to registry hack that baby to get it working with AHCI, although I don't see why you would want to unless it is a SSD (which it isn't) or you want the hotswap functionality of AHCI (which I can't see you using since you only list 1 HDD)...
Just leave it on IDE mode
[I've probably misinterpreted your question, in which case sorry!

Psyrus has actually hit the nail firmly and squarely on the head.
If this is the case the what is the point of having a SATA Mobo and SATA HDD that need a registry hack to work together?

Re: SATA HDD Drivers
It doesn't need messing with the registry, if you install windows 7 with AHCI enabled while installing. Then it's just fine, but if you install under IDE mode & then try to use AHCI, it will throw a BSOD fit. This is because AHCI requires special drivers to operate, which won't be installed/enabled if you install with IDE mode enabled. This is why if you want to use AHCI later, you have to get the drivers and tell it to use them in the registry (or something like that, it's been a while since I had to do it).[R-DEV]strima wrote:Psyrus has actually hit the nail firmly and squarely on the head.

Thanks a lot for your response. The rig came with W7 installed, word of warning to all, never trust the trained monkeys at overclockers.co.uk!!!!

AHCI SATA mode - From Native IDE Mode - Workaround in Windows 64 bit
That's the link, I found the workaround again
I'll reiterate again, unless you use a SSD (solid state drive) or require the hotswap functionality (multiple HDDs, not on your OS drive anyway), AHCI is really of little to no benefit to you.

Cheers mate, I more upset that it was never done properly in the first place, had nothing but problems with this rig.
