Tank turret turning speed!

Post by PatrickLA_CA »

I played a round today on Silent Eagle with tank, and I spotted a tank and was behind it when I shot him, and he turned the turret very fast to us and shot back, what I saw on FH2 is that the turrets are really slow, and PR's are very very fast, so can you do something to slow them down? In FH2 is WW2 so in PR should be a bit faster, not as fast as they're now

The bigger your sensitivity (ie adjustable dpi mouse) the faster you can turn. I use it to turn APC and tank turrets around ridiculously fast, or to upturn a tipped BRDM/LAV3.

I think there was a suggestion awhile ago to have the turret turned by using the WASD keys. An genious idea since it would rotate it at a realistic speed (T-62 takes 21 seconds for 360 degrees btw...) just like the AT guns on Yamalia and Kozelsk. But alas, it was soon forgotten and we didn't see it implemented.

Ye but a T-62 pretty much uses WW2 tank technology.

A Challenger 2 for example can rotate its turret 360degs in 6 seconds. Wouldn't be surprised if you can do it much faster ingame and is probably something we should look into.

Even though it's a resuggestion. I support it. With the mouse being still usable for small corrections if possible.

Missed the WASD key bit dtacs posted, it aint going to happen with no turret stabilization it just ruins the tanks. Even in the CA Minimod where they have you rotating with WASD keys and the turret "locking onto targets" it still isn't very good at all unless your on 100% flat smooth ground then its ok.

It is possible to slow the turret down with using the mouse.

I am all up for WASD controls with CAs stabilization.

I dont know why would unflat ground be a problem while i never see tanks engaging while on move in pr...

Or is that a problem while being stationary?

Stationary is easy but your always aiming on the move even if your not shooting on the move.

Picture this, your tank is just on anouther side of a mound of bumpy terrain from anouther tank. In order to engage that tank you need to drive up over that mound of bumpy terrain and then engage it. While your driving over that mount of bumpy terrain your turret is being thrown all over the place, up down, left right, the only way to counter is is to turn your turret in the opposite direction which is pretty easy to do with the mouse but with the k/b its really hard and by the time you have reached the top of that mound and stopped your still trying to correct your aim which could take a few seconds to do so after you have stopped. This is totally unrealistic for modern tanks with stabilization.

well there has to be a way, so that people can't "cheat" with the sensitivity of their mouse. hmmm :/

Well, something to think about would be the speed of vehicles. If I use my mousewheel on a vehicle it doesn't get faster, it stays the same speed no matter what. I used to think that because my mousewheel can be a fly wheel, uncoils just spin really fast and speed off into the wild blue yonder...it doesn't work, there is, in a sense, an engine governor hold me back.

Can the same set of information in regards to vehicle speed be applied to turret rotation?

Ye, cap the max speed of the rotation to a much lower rate than it is now. Right now iirc its just vBF2 settings on the turrets its not something we have really looked into I dont think.

And T-62 has stabilization? The only thing that differs it from newer tanks is the 15 sec reload time (and the bugged armor).
Also turning speed on Challenger seems different than other tanks, its slower and kinda allot more annoying :P

Well than can it be done with the WASD keys and mouse for slighter adjustments??

Aye, as long as it's possible to have a turn limit while still using the mouse, that's fine with me.

Praised be the day when turrets can be controlled by WASD (or joystick for that matter) in PR!

I know, it might not work that well in-game. At least reduce the turn rate of tank turrets :)

I agree with the poitn of this thread.

I have an adjustable DPI mouse too but I like that for the practical purposes not for exploiting over cheap mice :)
