Well good luck to those on top when the vehicle comes under small arms fire.

The way they rode on them I think the last thing they were expecting was to be shot at.spawncaptain wrote:Well good luck to those on top when the vehicle comes under small arms fire.
You have to remember the BTR/BMP vehicles were designed with large scale assaults on NATO forces in Europe, hence the forward facing firing ports and vision blocks. But the war in South Ossetia didn't really fit that theme and it would be easier to dismount by jumping off incase things went south.
Or maybe they just don't like being cooped up in such a small confined space? Got to remember FOUR guys are supposed to fit in the back there.

Seems like optics are very uncommon... tbh I never saw a pic of a soldier with a scoped AK74M.

Oh luls ty, really offtopic but since Ive got u and Nos here I rly wanna ask if u guys are trained to fire on full auto, cuz for example in teh IDF were trained on semi and never on auto, switchin to auto is kinda forbidden or sth (im not in a combat unit anymoar).

When I saw BMP2 thread, I searched the interweb for like an hour to find an appropriate picture, and this is exactly what I was looking for. ^^'[R-DEV wrote:dbzao;1420333']
Btw, riding on top of them BMPs... well, judging from all the photos made far from any conflict, I would say people ride on them for two obvious reasons:
- it looks awesome,
- it is awesome.

You see, I think they ride on top of the APC's to avoid all getting boiled when an RPG hit's em'. Sounds strange, but it's true. Dunno if that's the case in PR though..

Re: BMP-2 IFV
This is not really true, i've already translated story from chechnya's war veteran, where they left BMP only after about 7 RPG hits with most of crew/dismount not even injured. It all depends on exact situation. You see, I think they ride on top of the APC's to avoid all getting boiled when an RPG hit's em'
There were threads about it, this one is not.

MY TEARS FLOW FOR MOTHERLAND! WE FIGHT! THAT THUNDER, IS SOUND OF OUR MEN MARCHING TO WAR!
these things are tough. a single rpg would do little to it. It's mostly for being able to immediately provide infantry support for a vehicle that they ride on top. in tight areas that extra few seconds it takes to open the back door could mean death for everyone.
because it's cramped in there, because there are already people inside, and because they are under orders to be able to immediately dismount. these generally are the top reasons.jbgeezer wrote:Not exaactly that...

Information in the hands of a critical thinker is invaluable, information alone is simply dangerous.

Re: BMP-2 IFV
Any chance that we could see working firing ports with this?
Both 1/2's had firing ports with fume extractors, I'm not 100% if they work with the AK-74 (the BMP-1 was built for use with the AKM) but it would be a pretty cool feature.
