CTDing...

Post by Dai »

So, here's my stuff, sorry if I miss anything:

Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @2.4 Ghz 2.4 GHz
Memory (RAM): 3 GB
System type: 32 bit
I have 400 GB of free space (1 tera harddrive)

Ok, this is pissing me off  I am able to play for about 1-2 hours and then on the 3rd map load....crash. I load back in....crash before I can even get into the game. As soon as it's loaded to 100% it crashes. I actually got on twice, and survived 10 seconds and then crashed. Yesterday I was getting error messages after the crashes, but today I've not gotten any. It's really pissing me off, as it doesn't seem to matter what map, although Lashkar has been the one playing for the first crash.
All Alloc attempts could not find AS12351 (it was different everytime, and I don't know what it was) file.

How much ram on your video card?
Bump your vram up (1.5 x real ram is good. set min and max the same)
If you still have trouble run battlefield cleaner to flush out your video cache files

Still no joy?

Trash your BF2 cache files
Path:
C:\Users\'your user name here'\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

Throw EVERYTHING inside the folder named cache away.
don't worry the files will be replaced with new ones when the game restarts.

OK
Some other things you can try before you uninstall/reinstall.
Backup your BF2 folder that's inside your documents folder. Once you have a backup delete the original from your documents folder.
Try starting PR from your PR shortcut
a new default folder is created
link to your online account.
If all goes well (CTD gone) all you have to do to get your custom settings back is copy your 'control' file from your backup to the new profile folder.
path:
C:\Users\your user name here\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0002
note: you may not have a 0002 folder so use 0001

Good luck

Thanks, I'll go try that out.

I tried Battlefield Cleaner and trashing the Cache files already, as that's what you said to do in another thread that I posted in, be it to me or the original poster.

EDIT: It crashes still.
This is really pissing me off....

Run PR in 'windowed' mode
If you still have problems
run PR in 'windowed' mode to see if any error messages come up
(instead of running in full screen, it runs in a 'window')
To do so
Right click on shortcut.
Choose properties from bottom of list.
Modify the text in your shortcut's 'target' window.
("C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" start +fullscreen 1)

Change
+fullscreen 1
to
+fullscreen 0
Should look like this in Vista ( XP lose the (x86) ):
"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" start +fullscreen 0

Then Google or use 'search' on Project Reality web page for the error message you get next time you crash..

Please let me know what your error message is.

Good luck

I ran it in windowed and no problems. Maybe it is working after deleting the BF2 folder? When I get a CTD and go back the server I was on is now full, perhaps an admin kicks me to make room for himself? I dunno.

Shift N also seems to crash it for some reason. Everytime I'm sprinting and hit n instead of m for the map I crash.

Well, never mind I suppose. I played a bit of Fallujah as medic, really awesome. Then it tried to load Al Basrah and the server basically shut down. When I tried to load back in it was down from 64 players to 27. I tried to load back in and this popped up:

That's what was popping up before. Oh, and no, my background is not black. Whenever this messes up my background turns black until I restart the computer.

EDIT: I see to be able to play a map, and then crash during loading. I've played through...5 maps I think? so far, and while it's crashed every time a new one loads, I can jump right back in within a minute and I don't crash mid-game. So, it's livable so long as it remains like this.

You might benefit using a 3rd party app like 'game booster or ANDs fusion
And/or turn off xfire in the background.
Good luck
