Looking to Build PC in near Future
I'm looking to build a new pc in the near future. I want it to be able to run arma 2 on all high with max view distance and well if it can run that then it can run most other new games on all high as well im guessing.
These are my current specs
System Specifications
Operating System : Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit
CPU : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E6550 @ 2.33GHz
Graphics Card : GTS 250 1GB
Amount of RAM : 3GB DDR2
Sound Card : ASUS Xonar DS
I can re-use some of the parts out of my current comp for a new comp like my graphics card and sound card so they aren't needed right away and i can use those till i get some more money for new ones. I can also use my moniter, keyboard and mouse so no need to get new ones of those atm.
I'm looking to spend £800 not including graphics card and soundcard as i said before i can get them later, but i am willing to go a little higher if its worth it.
edit: i also need everything from a uk supplier cause i don't want to have to spend another £100+ for delivery

Re: Looking to Build PC in near Future
Really all you need is a better Processor.
IIRC it needs a Quad core, idk, check this site out to see if you can run in.
Can You Run It?
Edit:
Intel Core 2.8 GHz / AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ or faster
Thats what the recomeneded is.

Suggestion.
US Prices (Sorry, To lazy to translate to Euros)
Intel Core i5 750 Quad Core (2.66, Great OCer) $199.99
Any P55 Mobo Really. I'd say something like this so you can get another GTS 250 if you wanted. $170
4GB-8GB of DDR3 1333 Ram $100-$300
Maybe a PSU? If so Corsair TX650 (or 750/850 if you plan on getting something like SLI GTX 470's later on) ~$120
CPU Cooling, Tuniq Tower (Seen i5's up to 3.4 with this one) $62
That's about ~$700 depending on what you want in terms of memory, psu, etc.
But all you really need it seems is a new mobo/cpu/ram combo as the GTS 250 is a really capable card.
So yea. Hoped this helped a little..

i saw those i7 processors would it be worth spending the extra few bucks and picking one of those up or not?
also i am going to be needing things like a new case cause I'm not sure these would fit in and plus a new harddrive and stuff

Re: Looking to Build PC in near Future
If I remember right i7's have some hyperthreading issues with ArmA 2 though I think the more recent patches addressed them. Anyway I'll make a rig on overclockers.co.uk and post it tomorrow.AIMED wrote:i saw those i7 processors would it be worth spending the extra few bucks and picking one of those up or not?

Re: Looking to Build PC in near Future
CPU: Intel Core i5 750 2.66GHz (Lynnfield) (Socket LGA1156) - Retail [BX80605I5750] Processors Intel Core i5
Mobo (CF/SLI): Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4 Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard [GA-P55A-UD4] Motherboards Intel LGA1156 (P55 Chipset) - SATA 6Gb/s
SSD: OCZ Vertex 2E 60GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive (OCZSSD2-2VTXE60G) [] Internal Hard Drives Solid State Drives 30GB - 100GB
PSU (Modular): Corsair HX 750W ATX Modular SLI Compliant Power Supply (CMPSU-750HXUK) [CMPSU-750HXUK] Power Supplies Corsair
Memory: Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 10666C8 1333MHz Dual-Channel (CMX4GX3M2A1333C
[CMX4GX3M2A1333C8] Memory DDR3 Dual-Channel - PC3-10666
Storage Drive: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (WD1002FAEX) [] Internal Hard Drives SATA 1TB & Over
Case: Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black [0761345-08300-3] Cases Antec
CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS10X Extreme CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2/775/1156/1366) [CNPS10X] Cooling CPU Coolers
Whats the SSD for? Well if you have any experience with arma 2 you'll have noticed alot of texture lag, a SSD will virtually eliminate all of that and provide smooth gameplay because of its blazing fast read/write times.

Also offtopic, but being American, One question. What the hell is vat, and why is it so much?

its fucking tax shit, everything you buy it takes the price and adds 17.50% of it which goes to government or something its ridiculous, think it may have gone up to 20%

17% tax...Ouch where I live its only 7.25% or if I buy online I just pay shipping. Also that Zalman cooler will probably OC pretty good too.AIMED wrote:Thanks alot mate, i think i may get that cooler you originally posted so i can overclock it

Yea. Easily, Zalman are known for their Heatsinks. When looking for one I usually try to look for;AIMED wrote:you reckon it could let me overclock to abot 3ghz without problems?
Tuniq
Corsair
Cooler Master (Some of theirs are pretty good)
Zalman
Nocturna
Synthc
If your unsure about one, just read the reviews people usually put temps and what cpu they have.
