Myth Busted: SL marking makes noise!

Post by Celestial1 »

Myth: Only use the Observe marker when near enemies; the other markers make your character shout and the enemy will hear you.

Fact: The enemy team cannot hear your character saying anything when you place markers. They can, however, still hear the Q-commo rose audio like "Reloading!" or "Need a medic!"; but the SL markers do not make any noise to the enemy team.

Tested on a Saturday late at night on a winding down TG server.

Finally, ppl can stop yelling at me for using the attack marker. I hate using the observe marker. The observe marker is like, what its called, observe there! not attack there! or move there!! jeeez

It doesn't really matter, its personally easier to just go T > mouse up > right click for an observe.

The 'attack this position' saying does get peoples attention though.

I'm not saying you have to change what you do.

If you mean the enemies' attention, you're wrong.

Cool that's good to know - nice work mate.

I'll stick to using observe though - I don't want to hear even my own voice when behind enemy lines :p

I use the observe marker because it means my character doesn't yell out something retarded when I'm trying to speak.

Actually, if you're close to where the marker is being deployed, you CAN hear something - the "hiss" of the invisible smoke grenade marker going off.

Or at least, you always used to be able to hear it. We may have fixed that now, I can't remember.

"That's how it starts, Mas, with that warm happy feeling inside. Pretty soon you're rocking in the corner, a full grown dog addict, wondering where your next St Bernand is coming from..." - IAJTHOMAS
"Did they say what he's angry about?" asked Annette Mitchell, 77, of the district, stranded after seeing a double feature of "Piranha 3D" and "The Last Exorcism." - Washington Post

so THAT's what that was!? I remember seeing that before. I bet snipers hear that all the time. We're constantly marking them.

I think if you are dead you can hear the enemy squad leader. I am pretty sure I have.

I guess the logic behind it being that the SL is sending his mark through some sort of closed comms link between squad members. I always assumed when you're marking something (IE: "ATTACK HERE!") anyone within ear shot would be like "OMFGBBQSAUCE 'RINES AROUND DA CORNER!!", knowing this is not the case has opened my eyes.

Thanks Celestia1 for taking the time to teach a lot of us something new.

i'll stick to observe. even though i knew that it doesnt make noise before. its just really unnerving when you're sneaking behind enemies and your guy yells as you place the attack marker.

i think thats due to how in vBF2 when you die you could, on some server's settings, become a spectator for a short while before you spawn. in that way you are technically neither team while dead allowing you to see/hear things you could not while alive.
Information in the hands of a critical thinker is invaluable, information alone is simply dangerous.

That is so contradicting..

But thanks, celestial, I've always wanted to know that! For real!

Can I be part of the Reality Busters as well? 8-)

Myth: Wheeled vehicles have low torque.
Truth: If you press shift, it's like you stepped down on the pedal, giving you extra boost for faster accelerations or power for steeper climbs. For example, if you are sliding with a Mercedes in Operation Archer, hit shift and you'll make it! This is good for most wheeled vehicles.
Guys, when a new player comes, just answer his question and go on your merry way, instead of going berserk! It's THAT simple! :D

I'm not getting defensive; sorry if it came off that way.

I haven't heard that in forever; but wouldn't that also apply to observe markers, anyway?

That's possible. But I think at that point it wouldn't matter anyway–they've already found and shot you. :)

Good luck with that. I'm not going to be making a video. If someone else wants to they can.
