The problem with flying attach choppers high is that this is "Project Reality" not Project make up our own combat rules, My father was a Marine AH pilot in Desert Storm, and my uncle flew combat missions in Liberia in an Apache, and they both say the same thing, stay low stay fast and use the environment you're in for cover, all attack helicopters are built on that principle, My father has told me stories where of times where he flew through towns and could literally look into windows of houses and apartment building while flying by.

Even today marine pilots are trained to stay between 10-30 meters during combat operations, because you're less exposed to AAA when on the deck, if you're flying at high alt in real life every aa battery for miles can detect you, but when flying low they're lucky to see you at all before it's too late for them to do anything about it.

The only real issue with using realistic attach helo tactics in game is that we don't have the luxury of not having to worry about getting HAT sniped, or the ability to tune our speeds so much so that we can keep the attack helos flying at low enough speeds to keep it maneuverable at street levels.

if we had more realistic AA that could target the helos before they were in visual range the pilots who think flying uber high would quickly rethink their attack strategy. and we'd see more deck monkeys learning how to use real attack helicopter tactics.

It can work on selected maps but fails on most due to everything on the map having a bigger engagement distance than you, better shot stability, and almost laser accurate weapons.

"oh, they're fire and forget all right...they're fired then they forget where the target is"

As of the current version, Muttrah is the only map where it really pays off to fly low... most others you should be hunting the other choppers.

but even the pilots on muttrah use the whole I'm gonna fly to over 1000 alt and hover blindly killing targets...irl flying at that alt is instant death for an attack chopper pilot but here it's like being in god mode.

I cant say I have ever seen anyone at 1k on that map...

Its all about what you are trying to hit, I 'hover' in the mountains a lot, by hiding in the valley, wait for a target, pop out, shoot RTB. Attacking from high is sometimes a good idea, diving straight down on a target usually achieves maximum surprise.

I don't know if this is just me or not but the choppers in the patch feel a little different. I was playing with little bird earlier and was like, wow this feels amazing, then jumped in cobra, and started moving around map and I could fly down the streets of muttrah with ease, controls don't seem as stiff and gamey now. I was flying on beirut as well and was able to get the big bird down on the streets and hit courtyard lz's like it was nobodys business, I'd come in fast pull my throttle back to half and pull all the way back on my stick, the chopper would descend and my nose would come up just a little so that I could land on my gear and stop within 15 feet of touching down, if I were to try this before even when I chopped the throttle the chopper would either try to roll back or completely nose back to the point of no return.
