VOIP Volume

Post by sprint113 »

I was wondering if there was a way we could standardize VOIP mic volumes?

There's always one guy who's always too loud, and one guy who's too quiet, making hearing everything at a comfortable level impossible.

When setting up my audio settings, I adjust the mic input volume by listening a recording of myself made using windows sound recorder or audacity.

Is there a better, more convenient way of calibrating mic audio so we can get the vast majority of PR gamers yelling at the same volume?

I know what you mean ;) .

The loudness also depends on your Windows settings for your mic, so there's no standard way. The only thing you can do is complain to the person in question that he needs to turn it down. I believe you can do so while connected to the game, so it's not a problem.

what would be cool is if we could edit the sound option without going to the main menu ;)

Well, the idea was that having a universal measurement (e.g. -12dBA) after going through windows controls to any mic input program (games, recording software etc.). Then have everyone set their VOIP settings to like 100% receive volume, 100% transmit volume, and 50% game volume in the BF2 sound settings. Similar to the mumble setup walkthrough.

The thing is people have different types of mics, with different levels. Plus people talk at different levels.
I personally have my gain ramped up all the way, plus a 30 Dcb boost.

It would just be easiest to give a screenshot of the broadcast level indicator ingame, or a video or something, then tell people to set it at that level. Maybe I'm wrong about how the meter works.

Turn your effects down and turn your main sound up. That way the effects will be the same but the viop will be louder.

microphones do not have standardised outputs, therefore setting everything the same would leave you with the exact same problem.

I tried it, but it dont really helps. Effects 30% and VOIP 100% but the volume of Voip is to low nad i dont hear vehicle sounds as good as other players sometimes.

highly inuseful post ^^^^

also as long as your own volume is high enough most mics should be hearable unless ther persons mic is to far away from them.

Try pulling your effects down to like 20% and then turn up your speakers/headphones. It really shouldn't be a problem.
