Crashing to desktop issue; Question on virtual memory/fixed

So I keep crashing on PR after aprox 5 to 10 min ingame. Allways just when the game starts, when I get my squad organized etc. It used to run fine with just a minor desktop crash after a few hours playing. But now it keeps failing.

I read the FAQs and there its told that I should increase my virtual memory. Now my question are: how do I do that and what settings are recommended?

Here is my rig (copied from xfire):

Allright so I reinstalled BF 2 and PR, and deleted everything from the old install, still the same issue... Which brings me back to my orignial question:

Virtual memory is the swap space allotted on the hard disk. It has a minimum and a maximum value. Usually minimum is equal to the physical RAM on your pc. and the maximum is two and half times the RAM.

You can find the virtual memory setting by doing the following in winXP.
start > control panel > system > advanced > performance settings > Advanced > Virtual Memory Change
select the hard disk partition.
select the custom size radio button. Enter values. Press OK


I have minimum and maximum set the same at 2.5 times the amount of ram I have. See if that works for you.

Thats what I have now, so I should set the max to 3328 MB times 2.5 makes 8320 MB?

The minimum on 4990 and max on 8320 MB failed, putting both on 8320 MB now.

It seems a little much.... Try to close Xfire and get your friends on Mumble and close down TS3.

You deleted *EVERYTHING* including the profile information in the my documents folder? Ive seen cases of corrupted profiles causing the game to crash. So someone uninstalls the game, reinstalls, uses the same profile, and still crashes. (You can test by renaming the folder and the game will re-create another, if it still crashes after creating a new profile, set all your video settings to low/off, and pick a resolution that you know your computer can handle.)

Generally crashes that happen after a period of time are caused by overheating in my experience. If you dont think that it could possibly be overheating (youve checked to make sure the fans are still spinning and whatnot, and checked the temp of the card) you could try updating your video drivers, (or downgrading them.)

As was suggested earlier, close EVERY program thats running in the background to make sure that its not one of them. You'd be surprised sometimes just what can interfere.

The next thing to try is underclocking your videocard by 25mhz on the GPU/Ram, making sure that its not crashing because its beginning to fail. Seen that happen where a videocard *required* being underclocked slightly to run without crashing.

Other thoughts: I doubt its a swap file issue. I have experienced a sudden crash to desktop without warning on rare occasion, but if you can duplicate the crash every single time, that makes it much easier to pinpoint the problem. Might even try running the game in windowed mode to see if it tells you why its crashing.
