Reduce Vehicle speed

Post by Titan »

(ground vehicle only)

Right now the vehicles top speed are according (or nearly) to there RL maximum road speed (at least i think so). - fair possibility.

But since 90% (possible more) of all the maps are offroad or urban environment (only a rough estimation) and very often you could see vehicle go offroad even if there is a street nearby, i would suggest to take the offroad maximum speed.

The maps are with 4x4km not as big as a real battlefield anyway to slow things down cant be wrong ( imho ;) ). Taking longer to get repairs and resuply from the mainbase means that they maybe think twice bevor they fire away everything, resuply and be in the fight in no time.

I`ll just take the M1A2 Abrams as an example
Speed - Maximum 42 mph (thats ca. 68 km/h)
Speed - Cross Country 30 mph (~ 48 km/h)
Speed - 10% Slope 17 mph
Speed - 60% Slope 4.1 mph
according to:
M1 Abrams Main Battle Tank

for the rest its something like this:
BTR80/60 60km/h (it is around 75km/h right now)
BMP3 45km/h (its 69 ingame)
T72/90 45 km/h (62 km/h ingame)
T62 40 km/h (50 km/h at the moment)
Leo2 48km/h (72 km/h ingame)
Challanger2 40 km/h (62 km/h ingame)
Abrams 48 km/h (64 km/h ingame)

what the adequate cross country speed in unknown enemy territory are for the specific vehicles should the MAs know.

No I disagree, and about the on-road/off-road some guys are changing the overall vehicle physics and adding gears or something like that.

Some vehicles are too fast at max speet (or accelerate far to quickly), but it cannot be done that the vehicle goes faster on different terains.

It would be nice to have an off-road speed.

I've died driving a civi car outside the city in basrah just from hitting bumps too fast.

I use a joystick to drive, my Y axis is my throttle so I push the stick forward only a little when I wanna drive slow, such as on insurgency when avioding mines, or when I want to move while my gunner engages.

I think speed is good but there is a need of cruise control

mh... sorry i think you missed my point. I use my Joystick as well :)

my point is that you can still go 72 km/h with the Leo2A6 on Yamalia(Vehicle Warfare; with out any roads) for example. While in reality you can only go 48 km/h as a topspeed ( and even less on average) because if you hit a bump chances are that your Torsion bar suspension will break... scoring a mobility kill for free (or something like this).

sorry lol, I got distracted doing some secret stuff, I meant to add that I therefore know the benefits of slow driving ingame :)

I think the vehicles don't really go fast at all. I know for a fact the jet engine in the M1 Abrams allows it to go 70 mph. Also, you seem to have a problem with the map size. Would you prefer the maps be something along the lines of......Iraq? Like the entire country? Then you could spend 3 days on patrol and have a 20% chance of getting enemy contact.
Also, the vehicles ( and people ) take way too much damage from stupid stuff. Going over bumps too fast and exploding? That needs to be fixed. Also, I've dropped 10 feet before. It didn't injure me.

Hold the forward motion key then press your team talk/squad talk/all talk key then let go of the forward motion key. there cruise control!

I've often thought what the game would be like with reduced vehicle speed.

I think the speed/distance issue is okay BUT I believe acceleration should be slower.

Tank getting into gear is good but it speeds up so fast and so do most vehicles (in game, imo)

You don't know about the little expliot/glitch thingy whatever you wanna call it?
when you're driving, press your chat button, and the vehicle will keep driving + you can look around, but you can't change directions when doing this

you would think it would be possible to make different terrain slow the vehicle like water does. it would be more realistic to be slowed down from terrain. but dont know if it is possible in bf2 other than what is already done (water).
