PR Stability

Post by cocobutter333 »

PR is the best PC game i've played imo but its a shame that such a great concept of a game is on a dated platform.

As a member of the =MeRk= clan its fustraiting having server crashes and players crashing to desktop and or constantly loosing connection - after paying for a top range server.

even after investing in a new PC still having to go though all the fixes and tweaks just to be able to stay in a game

this is why i cant wait for PRARMA to be released and have a solid game on a conventional engine

Can there be any more support/improvements made to PR to make the game more stable? ; is my question. If so i belive it should be a priority

I believe that the DEVs try their damn hardest to make sure that Project Reality is as stable as can be. Believe me, i'm having the same crashes also, but i'm one dedicated person and won't quit or rage just because of a couple issues. Not saying you are, but yeah, hell I even think that PR: ARMA 2 will have some issues with stability. Also some of the disconnections can be from the EA servers, remember how the gamespy servers were moving their files to another location or something like that? All the disconnections was from them, but we just have to ram through the problems, and keep our heads held high.

I can state without reservation that alot of work is being done to optimise PR, by the whole spectrum of skillsets.

Are you referring to the crashing to the login screen that has been happening recently?

FYI: That has nothing to do with PR, it is an issue with the gamespy account server which they are sorting out now.

Aside from the most recent gamespy issues the standard Dev response to crashes is along the lines "it's not our fault you must have faulty RAM" which in part is true. The amount of fault tolerance in BF2 is about zero, it crashes at the most minor hardware glitch.

However having said that PR's demands hardly help the situation and optimising PR would sensibly come top of the list now over other factions and I hope 0.95 addresses some issues. Still it is a mod and the ability to test it on every PC component available isn't possible for a mod, you get what you pay for. Otherwise awaiting ArmA2 might be the answer to a few problems.

Yeah, I've been following Game Spy for week or so now.

Still saying, "Normal play will be resumed shortly." -.- Jeez.

I think some of the maps (by some I mean most (by most I mean all but the skirmish)) are WAY too big for the engine.

Then allow me to show you the way out of this place.

*knocking on my wooden head*
I never had serious issues with pr, even those crashes i had were fixable and i have no problems atm.

You are going to need about 4gb or RAM if you want to stop the memory.dll or random CTDs when you run out of memory. The only other crashes I ever get in PR are the random CTD's (i.e everyone in a heli in a certain part of the map dies) which are very uncommon.

Pr, for me at-least is pretty stable :)

PR is really stable for me right now so long as i keep my sound quality to High and not very high (damn you windows 7)

My issue is my crappy worn out CPU and the fact that i only have 3gb of RAM.

Also realize the game is still not v1 yet. so... it's going to be a buggy ride. Hahaha. Pun intended.

I must say I hardly ever crash. Once every couple of weeks is a LOT already. I guess BF2 doesn't like your hardware combination. Perhaps vanilla doesn't crash on you, but 'cause PR is pushing the engine, it might be a little too much for Refractor to handle it?

I CTD every other map load normally, sometimes it doesnt. I'm running on 2gb of ram and personally i dont find those crashes that annoying at all (unless the map changes right after i join the server) It reminds me to stop playing and do other things...like homework

Dragon Fly is still unplayable, which is very sad. Apart from that, the other maps work without crashing

Actualy i am getting nuts that i cant play on high textures without crashing at the second map load... not that my system cant handle it, my cpu and gpu is good enough to play on highest settings, i even got 4gb ram, i heared that 32bit os can only support up to 3gb ram, can someone confirm this for me?

If thats the case i most likely would need a 64bit os to get rid of the texture crash...

Its really on a case-by-case basis. I for one, run it fine.
