CREW System

Post by Rabbit »

Did a search but could only find people talking about tank crews and such. Anyway will we see some vehicles with the CREW system or is the just about impossible to code?

That Id think crew systems should be in some vehicles in the game. The military advisers will know what I'm talking about. I just don't want to say to much about them as they are a sensitive item. Pretty much all I know i can say is they stop some IEDs from going off.

The ones that transmit a certain frequency or the 'RHINO' which detonates them ahead of the vehicle?

Re-suggestion, and very hard to code into PR since there are only 2 types of IED's currently in-game. Plus not single IED is the same as the next so those systems IRL are dependent on the makeup of the IED itself.

I figured it would be hard. The RHINO is only one part of it, no RHINO on the man portable ones. And yes, I know there are many IED's it doesn't defeat as I have been deployed with them before... And about to again...

The problem here is that then we would need more IEDS to defeat the cellphone jammers as you maybe know a simple wire will counter cell phone jammers etc.

I found this sentence quite funny and since this is a war game forum I will put it here. No offense to the french just a good laugh.

Pressure plate ied's?(can be done) or IR ones?(maybe) Complete the circuit ones? (probably just like landmines.) Timed ones too. (can be done)

I don't think so considering that there are issues with placing objects under the pre-determined terrain and that ground vehicles' bodies also 'touch the ground' per se, meaning an AT mine that doesn't actually touch the vehicles wheels but goes in-between them will still blow up in PR.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. The pressure plate would be for ground troops mainly. So the legs of a person are not to far apart so if you walk over it chances are you will step on it.

thats little of topic, but that mine system is IMO working this way because you cant place so dense minefields as IRL. So made this way, its more acceptable.

just my 2 cents.

I'm not sure how the BF2 engine could cope with this idea, but I LOVE the idea of both "CREW" and "RHINO", it would also implement a more tactical side to the Insurgents as they would have to choose whether to use manually triggered IEDs or IR detonated ones.

Id still like to know if its possible. Also all the new ied's that could come out of this would really make insurgency a lot more interesting.

It wouldn't make it interesting, it would make it a frustrating game of random chance if your IED is going to destroy the enemy vehicle because you don't know if its components are redundant when going up against the RHINO/CREW.

IED's IRL are dependent on BLUFOR patrols, and since Insurgency focuses on 2 objectives at any one time, the BLUFOR don't 'patrol' but rather assault the 150m radius area to get the cache.

We must remember that Insurgents are also the most underpowered faction and their game play revolved solely around a roulette system. If anything they need more things as opposed to things against them. We'll see part of this fufilled with the SPG-9 technical and the mortar pits though.

Also, I found some information on the RHINO for those interested.
The Rhino system is a passive counter-passive infrared tool that joint forces have come to rely on due to its simplicity and effectiveness. JIEDDO funded an expedient solution developed in the field to defeat PIR-triggered IEDs utilizing a boom-mounted glow plug that causes PIR-initiated IEDs to detonate prior to their intended targets entering the kill zone. The first systems were developed in Iraq in May 2006. At the end of FY 2008, more than 16,000 JIEDDO-funded Rhino II systems were in Iraq. Upgrade kits were provided to include heat monitoring systems with safety and performance improvements to the heating elements. JIEDDO continues to fund an effort to develop and deliver Rhino systems (Rhino III) that will meet the unique terrain requirements of the Afghanistan theater of operations.

Patrols are usually done my helicopter actually. Because most are planted at night and helicopters have flir. Not to mention you can keep some IED's at least a little exposed so people have a chance to see them as they are moving. Also If the level has something like ah-64 (or later kiowa) support it can watch routes and make sure no one plants an IED. I think making it frustrating would actually enhance the game because you ALWAYS have to worry about getting hit, ALWAYS have to be on you toes and have support watching over you making sure routes are clear while moving to an objective.

I'd like to see a boost in IED use, we all know how much a threat IEDs are in RL. Infact at this point in the fight I assume it's the enemies most effective tool of fear. In game we do not see this....unless some moron gives the insurgents a combat engy kit, and this happens more often then you'd believe. BluFor going into danger zones currently have little to no IED threat because they know it's a rather underpowered asset and hard to use correctly.

I know IEDs are our worst enemy over there, so why are they so under-used ingame?

The fact is that true IED tactics will never be effective in PR:BF2, simply because there is no local populace that the insurgents can blend in with. If someone is hanging around watching an intersection in PR, it's because he's got an IED there. ArmA II offers a lot more options to more realistically simulate insurgencies, but ultimately PR:BF2 will never be able to realistically portray insurgent tactics because you can't have innocent civis who do civilian type things (like randomly driving/walking around)

That's why in bf2 it would be nice to see more victim activated ied's. That way you can't just say "oh look at guy, he must me up to no good" Also with the CREW system (if it would work in bf2) you would only have lets say 2 vehicles out of 4 that have it, thus when the convoy moves out they need to have set up and spaced properly or your convoy could go boom.

Id also like to see it take longer planting an ied like the 155 round. It's not like you can dig a hole in a road and cover it up in a smooth 30 seconds. lol Also it would make insurgents think twice about where they place them because of that.

of course, but the everyone will just use the other ieds and we are on the same ground again. except someone have used lots of time on nothing
