[Weapon] Khaybar 2002 Assault Rifle [WIP]

I've finally gotten back into modelling and have decided to do a little warmup, the subject being the Iranian Khaybar 2002 Assault Rifle, a bullpup conversion of the M16A1. Further specs are here. Good reference pictures are here. What I've come up with so far is around 5 hours poly modelling in max. Measures in at 4,610 tris, and 2,428 verts. Viewport shots for your enjoyment ;) .

As you can see, I still need to add the STANAG magazine and M1913 rail. I may post some more WIPs as I optimize and UV map. Any feedback would be much appreciated!

nice, would the devs be interested to use this for the MEC on some maps?
(NO I do not want you to replace the G3)

Tbh i would replace the G3 with this.
The MEC would finally get a bit of advanced technology, which they should allready have with all their oil-money :smile:

This gun ain't in service in considerable numbers yet, whereas the G3 is still the backbone.

Well but the MEC are fictional and PR plays in near future, right?
Maybe it could replace just some of the G3 kits.

that would mean horrible logistics, if the army would have to deploy 7.62 and 5.56mm ammo for regular soldiers, but i think saying some maps feature MEC-Guards (e.g. Iranian Revolutionary Guards) that use the Khaybar, while the regular MEC army uses the G3 would be quite plausible

this could make the mec a very interesting faction, e.g. in defense, secondary troops would be called upon still armed with the g3 whereas assaulting first rate troops would be issued this nice weapon.
just a suggestion though, it would mean a lot of unnecessary work not really worth the trouble as the brilliant g3 ingame is good enough really.

Nah, Insurgent Strike is pretty much dead in the water right now. This is more of a personal project, but I'd be glad to lend it to PR if the devs were interested.

Hmmm...US Army-USMC = MEC Army-MEC *insert some name for the "Guard" army*

might be worth a mini COMFAC project if you ask me

Made some more progress towards finishing. I have completely refurbished front section and made the carry-handle integral to the main body of the gun. I've also added detail in and around the weapon (mag well, cocking handle, gas block) and fixed up the sights to be functional. The grip at the front has also been deleted, as I was not satisfied with the mesh :razz: . Pictures for your enjoyment:

As for the idea of a Revolutionary Guards-type faction, I would be interested in seeing something like that ingame. All that would really be required to make it work would be different kit loadouts (with the Khaybar) and some localisation changes (and maybe a soldier reskin, but lets not get ahead of ourselves :grin: ). Regardless, it's up to the devs to decide whether or not they'd be interested.

well, it would also require scopes, bayonets, underslung GL's and perhaps also red dot or holographic sights, that would be quite some work, I like the idea though.

As for scopes, I'm pretty sure that the Iranians have adapted the Hensoldt scope from the G3 to mount on the Khaybar. The bayonet is also simply an AKM bayonet with synthetic handle. Here's a ref for that (note that this is the old Khaybar, without the railz and with the M16A1-style rear sight).

If the sub-faction were to happen they could use scoped and ironsighted variants of the Khaybar as equivalents to ACOG and Aimpoint variants of the M4/M16A4. As there is no record so far of the Khaybar using an underslung GL, they could continue using the G3 for grenadier and other roles in which the US equivalent uses an ironsighted (not Aimpoint) rifle. The main workload on the core PR team would be the texturing and animation of the asset, community members would take care of the rest :wink: .

Great job on the Khaybar model, it looks fantastic! :p

The MEC G3 rifles are brilliant too so if it wasn't possible to integrate the Khaybar into the current MEC team, then perhaps a separate MEC faction would be more suitable.
However perhaps it would be possible to do something similar to the Israeli and Russian factions where they have the desert camo models on Beirut as well as their original faction models.
In that case certain maps could have the G3 rifles as standard whereas others use the Khaybar which could represent regional/geographical differences?

Just a thought anyway.
