Keypad

Post by Daewi »

I have a hard time understanding keypad. PR players are referring to KP 1, 2, 3 etc. I had a look in the manual, but I couldn't find any good answers.

Look at the picture and tell me: Is the red nr. 1 called KP3, nr. 2 called KP6 and nr. 3 called KP9? Sorry for bad bicture.

If you look up the top left hand corner of the map grid, you'll see the numbers there. But yes, just like your number keypad on your keyboard, hence why it's called "keypad" :p . Personally I just say it like B6-3, but whatever works I guess :) .

Just to raise awareness, you can also divide each of the keypad grids to similar, smaller grids as discussed here. Unfortunately the practice is seldom used by PR players, instead giving out minute long descriptions like "Uhh, yeah, there's an enemy FOB in, uhh, B3 kp 4, in the upper right corner, kinda just near the line between kps 4 and 7." instead of the simple "B3-49". This also leads to many players not understanding the latter example, which in turn is why I'm writing this post in the first place.

Hopefully with the new grid system, that won't be as necessary.

Look at Minimap grid - note the 'key' in A1, just noticed myself the scale in the bottom right corner too - excellent.

Well, the A1 thingy has always been there. I was thinking more about the increase in grids(A-M, 1-13) which means smaller and more precise grids.

My friends and I send out alot of coordinates. E.G d4k9. Lately also using subkeys; d4k9sk7. Very much in favour for a standarization as read in the other thread. d497. Feels alot more readable.

Yes top left grid shows keypads. Twice however I've had arguments with people on servers about this. Me referring to topleft grid A1 as proof. To no point apparently. People dont seem to see em. I do. They are somewhat faded though.

Maybe make the keppaddigits more visable would help folks around?

One thing I just want to add.

As a way to cut down chatter and make comms more precise I've tried to move away from saying "Kay-Pee" or "Key Pad" at all. Instead if I want to give a coordinate I just say "Grid Hotel(H) One(1) Three (3)" sometimes if I have to repeat or type it I add a dash. "H3-1"

Works for now, but with the map grid update coming next version, we might see more than 10 grids, making "Alpha One Two" either Alpha 12 or Alpha 1-2. Of course twelve isn't "one two", but I guess some people could misunderstand it then.

Saying "kp" or "keypad" (or numpad, which is the actual name of that thing, and I have no idea why noone uses that anymore :p ) isn't that extremely long anyway, unless you constantly point out things in sub-grids, which I don't really do that often.

C8kp4.6 (Charlie eight keypad four point six) works for me. Using dash gives me the impression of defining an area rather than a point on the map.
BTW nice to see that there's been an increase of resolution on the grid system, it'll make things a bit easier. And scale too! :)

The signs in A1 was barely visible, but I found it :D

No wonder why so many keeps asking what keypad coordinates are.

If you didnt notice, these numbers in A1 are ingame (noticed on Muttrah) but they are very transparent and hard to see.
