shoting in holes and glass

Post by snipurs »

well i was thinking how about adding(if possible) you can get shot threw windows, i notice that the tanks have protection for this but not all humves and other types of stuff dont have protection like that, so wouldnt bullets go threw (besdies that armored car) also pop tires ect, i just wanna see that if a door is nocked off(or might have a hole in it) i can shoot and hit my target and not have a glass window that its like titanum.

bf2 already has material penetration, so it wouldn't need to be modded in.

no only for, certain metal not in the humvees, you wont be able to shot the car and hit the passenger in the bf2, you would need to take the health away of the dang thing.

yeah killing the driver or poping the tyres would be class, either the vehicle would loose control and crash.

We officially do not know yet whether the hit boxes/material penetraition will allow for such specific desiered results. Shooting out a tire, if at all would be implemented (bu again I can't be sure) much in the same way that GTA probably has it, the wheel would wobble severely and you would loose much of your ability to steer accuratley. Other than that we will have to see what BF2 will allow us to do.

While with items such as killing the driver, whose full body weight is then applied to the gas pedal, I'm going to say, could be coded to an extent...

it would be nice if you could loose control of a vehicle like in gta like it the tail roter of a helo gets damaged you cant really turn the thing left or right. that would be one of the things id rather see than a simple health bar for the vehicle.

Here's my 2 cents in this topic

Actually to call an armored window "bullet proof" is a lie, anyone who has served in Iraq, Afganistin, etc. knows what im talking about. The so called bullet proof window is meant to by time to get out of the area if you are getting shot at, last time i checked an armored window was tested by firing 3 rounds at the window in a 3 triangle(One round per corner) with a 7.62 round i think. An more rounds and the people within the vehicle run the risk of being shot, the window will not shatter because it is made up of layers of glass with an adhesive inbetween the layers, The window will hold up for a period of time but rounds will pass through the window. So why not make it realistic, program it so the windows will take only a certain amount of rounds within a certain area until the rounds start going through. The higher caliber the round the less rounds the window will take.

so many of these things are nice, but thats the problem with reality, there is so much of it. If a game could handle that much information I don't think any computer/server next to a supercomputer could run the game let alone the lag problems. If I had to choose one it would be the glass health idea thingy. I know plane pilots/heli pilots can be killed now when someone is using a sniper rifle, but the idea of armored windows is nice because it allows the same abilities(sniper killing pilot ect) for all the weapons to all vehicles with windows.

IRT Tactical Advantage:

Thats a good point, regarding 'bullet proof' materials. There isn't one material in the world I can think of, that if hit in the same place enough times is bullet proof, hence the fact that most materials which aim to prevent projectile penetration are referred to as 'bullet resistant'.. :)

haha found it kablow

Spider silk has incredible tensile strength and is often touted as being several times stronger than steel of the same thickness. What's even more unique, however, is spider silk's elasticity.
These properties suggest a potential for many applications for spider silk: extremely thin sutures for eye or nerve surgery, plasters and other wound covers, artificial ligaments and tendons, textiles for parachutes, protective clothing and body armor, ropes, fishing nets, and so on.

Very Intresting, by the way, thanks for the complimant Fortnight.

Also I'd like to point something else out concerning body armor in PR. I'm guessing this has been taken into consideration by the PR team already but it is intresting. The Primary key to body armor is bullet resistant Kevlar, but there is several major flaws in body armor atleast for Law enforcement, some of this may have been fixed in Military body armor, but the major flaws are that the kevlar in body armor will with stand multiple rounds, the problem is that the layers of kevlar in body armor are not secure, if body armor is shot multiple times in a short period of time the kevlar layers will begin to bunch around the primary zone of impact leaving areas such as the edges of your body open. Another major flaw is that body armor really only protects your chest and back, not your sides very well, if kevlar layers were put into the sides it would drastically reduce movement in the vest, this is why when SWAT and other agencies raid a building their chest are pointing straight ahead, it may pose as a bigger target then if their sides were pointing forward, but the protection is in the chest in back area, not the sides. So maybe PR could incorperate that into the od somehow.

Good points.
The majoritiy of military vests (the ones I used) are kevlar plate inserts. The plates roughly the size of a A4 piece of paper. They offer no lower torso protection just heart and lungs. These things, without the inserts, were heavy and uncomfortable. We would leave out the back plate to save weight.

As for PR, and this applies to a majority of the excelent questions asked here, we are in the hands of the MDK (Mod Development Kit).

Reminds me of some bullet resistant glass I've seen at the Hoover building in DC. It had several holes from obvious bullet penetration. It looked like it took a decent amount of punishment though.

I believe that the tires on a Humvee are not hollow and full of air, but a solid mass of rubber. This way it can withstand bullets and still hold its shape. I am pretty sure I heard this on the history channel, but can't be sure.

The military humvees are equiped with a runflat system. They also use central tire inflation system.
