Possible movie references in game?

Post by sovietpolarbear »

I would love to play on a "ride of the Valkyrie" or maybe the last scene from Full Metal Jacket.
Would this be a good idea?

music isn't allowed due to licensing and copyright reasons, if we created music of a similar style in house then we can put it in.

NB this has been discussed to death before.

Not entirely sure, but I think the OP is suggesting possible easter eggs built into the game? IE: A firefight at the set of buildings where the sniper drops Cowboy in FMJ. Playing the game and stumbling upon something done in reference to classic movies.

Ehrm, "Ride of the Valkyries" was composed in 1870. Copyrights aren't eternal, they're temporary. As a law student I'd say you can use music created 2 centuries ago, only thing is that you have to record it yourself, e.g., you cannot use a prerecorded mp3 you found in torrents cause it's someones intelectual propert and therefore is "guarded" by copyrights, but not the composition. So theoretically if PR DEVS would like to include "Ride of the Valkyries", they should get the composition (notes), go to a recording studio, hire an orchestra and just record the piece or ask someone who has done it already to share the recording (sometimes people are nice).

To add to that, roughly anything before the 19th century is fair game. Not that there's something that we need from then.

Any music is cleared of royalties 50 yrs after the death of the said Artist, Author or owner.

However youre right about using a torrent mp3. On the other end, PR is a free modification therefor they do not re-sell it. Plus, I think think playing some bad quality music on a radio in-game, or in a helicopter to mimic an epic movie scene, wouldnt be considered illegal whatsoever.

Consider it homage or tribute :) In the very best circomstances, free publicity for the owner of said rights.

Really nothing to be efraid of here.

P.S: I thought you guys heard... About the word...

MMmmmmbabapamamamaa wwow babappp maaammaaawoooow

Dont you know about the word??? OHHHHhhhh everything knows that the bird is the word!

A vietnam war game wouldnt be a vietnam war game without m16s, AK47s, Or epic 60-70s music.

You cant use ride of the vakyries freely? One would think you could, it being a cultural heritage and what not. Who owns it anyhow.

Whoops ninjaed on above posts.

Anyway I wouldnt like to see that on account that it would get spammy and that its only cool if coppola matches camera cuts and picture to the music.

Also Coppola was looking to make a good movie, not an accurate era movie. Vietnamised indigo indians tossing speers at patrol boats? Really?
