"Armor" and "Fear" are 2 word I rarely associate with each other. When I see a tank or an APC as infantry, I'm not thinking about how were all going to die, I call over Ramirez to use his AT on it and leave. Armor just isn't the awe-inspiring powerhouse I would expect it to be.
Its pretty much depends on who's on the server.

Re: Opinion of armor in PR?
i skipped over all the walls of "tank doctrine".
the point is
as myself and many other people have pointed out, with all the enemy air and anti-tank weaponry available in the game, its very hard for tanks to stay alive long enough to be used effectivly. depending how you look at it, the TG server is either a better or worse place for these tanks because of all the communication.
yes, a tanks primary use in the real world is not as an anti-tank weapon, but in PR, that ends up being its role its role. without the tanks, the infantry is on its own. any way you look at it, there is going to be tank v tank engagements. if supporting the infantry means eliminating a larger threat, those are tanks are the larger threats.
now if, if, your team has air superiority, your ok. without it, your boned. when is the last time anybody saw an "AA" asset squad? everyone has this mythological "all powerful" view of tanks. they say "ehh, they'll be fine, we need their help, they dont need ours."
in the end, leading a tank squad is just a way to waste 36 tickets. but the fault isnt entirely with the tank crews.

'Sirex[SWE wrote:[MoW];1450690']Does not matter, still underequipped in terms of a modern IFV. The BMP-3M got a 40mm AP automatic cannon, 100mm HE gun, and cannon fired atgm. With the rate that IFV and APC armor is improving you could throw out the 25mm of the bradley and set in some extra tow because the 25mm sure enoguh won't be able to destroy anything more heavly armed then a truck with it's main cannon.
BMP-3M has a 30mm cannon.
BMP-3 Tracked Infantry Combat Vehicle - Army TechnologyThe BMP-3M will also be able to fire ammunition types including new 100mm laser-guided projectiles, new 100mm HE-FRAG (high-explosive fragmentation) rounds and new 30mm APSDS (armour-piercing discarding sabot) rounds.

This means that passive part, detecting approaching missile, is useless, but the OTShU IR-jammers(0,7-2,7mkm) will work, that is exactly their job. Wire guided missiles have a flare in the back, which is used as reference point by vehicle's FCS guiding missile, once Shtora IR-lights gets into screen - FCS confuses itself what is actually a reference point and missile either hits the ground or goes sky-high.masterceo wrote: About the Shtora:

TOW is wire, not laser guided, so I believe that it is not effected by Shtora.
Passive part of Shtora with TShU laser-detectors is meant to warn the crew about approaching missiles and automatically launch smoke grenades in the direction of laser emitter.
Arena is not installed on serial vehicles, i'm not even sure if it have ever been installed on any of T-90/A as a prototype/testing purposes.'Sirex[SWE wrote:[MoW]']Also modern Russian army tanks have Arena and Shtora.

In order to break even for ticket loss from losing a tank/IFV, you must either kill two helicopters or APCs(Not IFVs!), or 5 jeeps, or 1 jet, or another tank/IFV. To make using a tank/IFV worth the while strategically, you should wipe out tanks and IFVs, taking out two for every tank/IFV you lose. In order to justify an IFV/Tank after that, you need to be able to allow your infantry to more easily take out the enemy.
Also VW is a glimmer of hope for armored combat to me, I am really hoping to see vehicle warfare with vehicles of all types and fixed flag capping. The addition of AAVs, more IFVs, light ATGM carriers, attack helicopters, and jets, are key.

Had only a vague idea of how the system worked, thanks for explaining it to me.[R-DEV]DankE_SPB wrote:This means that passive part, detecting approaching missile, is useless, but the OTShU IR-jammers(0,7-2,7mkm) will work, that is exactly their job. In there we see that in some situations armor is really worth the effort
